Bosch HC2124 SDS Hamm Bit, 3/4" x 10"

This drill bit was used in a Bosch Rotary Drill to drill holes into a "salt & pepper" bolder that was uncovered when I was digging footing holes for a new deck. I'm using the shim & wedge (feather & wedge) approach to break the bolder into removable chunks. The salt & pepper bolder is so hard that it was difficult even chipping a small piece off using a 16-pound sledge hammer. When struck, the hammer bounced off the same as it would have off an anvil, with not even a mark on the bolder. Actually, I was quite surprised that the drill lasted so long drilling such nasty material. The drill is rated for concrete, not salt & pepper granite. Yet, it has drilled over 20 four-inch deep holes and looks like it could go 20 more.

This is the first review I've written on Amazon after buying products here for years. I recommend avoiding this purchase. I bought the 25 pack and within one week of drilling (in granite) all 25 bits are slagged. Prior to this, I had been purchasing individual Bosch, Hilti, and Dewalt bits at a local hardware store and been enjoying a use life of probably 30 to 50 holes per bit. With this package from Amazon, the use life is close to three holes, though the carbide tip would often shred out on the first hole. Though the manufacturer is listed as Bosch, these bits are not the equivalent of the Bosch bits you're likely to buy at a local store.

Bosch invented sds bits and produce a lot of the other banded bits. If you are buying a sds bit that imade in Germany then it's likely made by Bosch. If you own a sds hammer drill and don't hit any steel while drilling these bits will drill hundreds of holes.

Drilled 14, 3/4" holes 6 inches in depth to install/anchor a car lift. Each hole took less than 5 minutes with an electric hammer drill.
