Another Time, Another Place - The Second Collection ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED SET

Before reviewing this product it should be stated that this is the 2nd Jasmine 4 CD box set so if you think all of the hits should be on this then you'd better take a look at the first box. Yes, there are a few songs which were on box 1 but these are not the same masters. Tennessee Waltz is single voice, Retreat does not contain the 'yee haws' etc, Under the Sun Valley Moon is single voice and there are both the 1950 and later 50s recordings of I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine.This box shines with 5 stars because of the great number of cuts which up to now have not been on CD. It is great to hear many of Patti's later Mercury singles in glistening stereo: With My Eyes Wide Open, My Mother's Eyes, High on the Hill of Hope, Every Time I Hear Your Name, By a Long Shot,Let's Cry Together, The Walls Have Ears, Because Him Is a Baby, Promise Me Thomas and 2223 Miles.Many of these were Billboard, Cashbox, Music Vendor/Record World Top 100 singles.Now that we have Joel Whitburn's HIT RECORDS (which has all of the Music Vendor/Record World chart listings) we have a whole new range of Patti Page hits which are included here: You Too Can Be a Dreamer No. 52, I Love To Dance With You No. 38, Hocus Pocus No. 81, Keep Me In Mind No. 46 (26 in Cashbox), I Can't Tell a Waltz From a Tango No. 25, Piddily Patter Patter No. 23, Bring Us Together No. 85, High On The Hill of Hope No. 87, Every Time I Hear Your Name No. 87. And this is the very first time the Oldsmobile recorded song samples and Olds song have been around since the original was sent to Olds dealers in 1958. We also get selections from Patti's Playcraft children's LP Patti Page Sings. Add to this some great album selections from "Golden Hits of the Boys", "C&W Golden Hits, volumes 1 and 2, selections from "In The Land of Hi-Fi" and Patti's 2 sacred albums for Mercury and you have a great overview of her Mercury output.When you add this collection to Jasmine's 4 CD box "Near to You" you undoubtedly have every hit she recorded for Mercury with 44 in this box and 45 in the 1st box (Billboard, Cashbox, Music Vendor chart listings).The two boxes together present Patti's entire 15 years with Mercury Records when no one could top her popularity and sales.This is a great way to examine a great career in music. Great thanks must go to Robert Nickora who again produced an amazing set of Patti recordings and to Jasmine for releasing this product.

With this massive boxed set we get into really interesting territory in the Patti Page saga. As was the case with most artists of her era (the most notable exception being Joni James) she mostly recorded what was presented to her to record by her manager Jack Rael and other people she worked with, and that once-removed element to her work even extended to her club and concert appearances, where she left it to others to figure out the program. So consequently she recorded everything but the kitchen sink and what is interesting is she could take any song and do something memorable with it. She also was willing to rerecord her hits, sometimes many times for many labels and to redo hits such as "With My Eyes Wide Open I'm Dreaming" for the original label, which most artists declined to do as they didn't want to tarnish the reputation of a big hit if it didn't become a big hit the second time. She was known in the business as "the perfect technician" and that she was, as evidenced by her faultless multi-tracked vocals, very difficult work she tossed off as if were nothing (that's because, for her, it was nothing but for most singers it was difficult or just impossible). So you get to hear in this collection all kinds of Patti Page were from truly glorious records to almost painful novelties. She sailed through it all unscathed because, it is my belief, she could tackle anything presented to her and was simply incapable of doing bad work! She also was very easy to work with, by all reports, and it is said that, like Doris Day, she didn't always stick around at recording sessions to hear the playbacks and really didn't need to as anything she did was done right.

What more can be said about this wonderful singer Miss Patti Page that has not already been said. For over fifty years she has made so many fans so happy with all her recordings and appearances. Another Time, Another Place CD brought back such great times with all those songs I grew up with. With the passing of Patti on New Years day 2013 we all lost a music icon.

Always nice to hear Patti Page sings. To all music lovers,it's nice to have a copy of this album, it brings back the momeories of50's and 60's.

I love Patti Page but I don't love this set. Let's start with the terrible picture on the cover that doesn't even look like her. Then there is the uneven sound quality and no attempt was apparently made to bring the fidelity of this material up to today's standards. They threw it all together, as so many labels do, without worrying about the wide variation in sound.I realize these songs were recorded over a period of years, but really. I also question a lot of the source material, which seemed really bad. They didn't try too hard attempting to locate better sources...or even AVERAGE sources that most fans/collectors already have.A big disappointment.

It was nice that some of the recordings were in stereo but I could have picked some better songs to be included in such a large collection.

This box set is absolutely FANTASTIC. The 4 CD box set has 120 songs that include JAZZ, COUNTRY, POP, ROCK & ROLL, CHRISTMAS AND CHRISTIAN HYMNS. The box set is a MUST if you enjoy all kinds of music, and especially if you like PATTI PAGE. She certainly ruled the air waves in the 50s and 60s. Thanks Jasmine, you did a super job.

Another time, another place.Patti Page.Fairly good. Never heard of the artist before.It sounds okay. I can live with it. Wasn't quite what I thought. Besides the cd box was devistated when I got it.
