OTS Guardian Full Face Mask - Blue/Black

Excellent this is the finest dive mask I have ever seen. Service was outstanding very prompt and professional. Couldn’t be happier.

I have been diving full face masks for over ten years. I had an ocean reef Neptune (base model only eith surface to air valae and comms) for this period and have also user interspiro masks both for diving and firefighting. Because the interspiro is out dated now (even though widely used still) this review will be comparing the oceanreef masks and the it's guardian. The guardian has far superior viability that the ocean reef imo. That being said I never had issues in the regard with the ocean reef and only realize after diving the guardian that it could have been a bit better....mnot much though. I think this is due to the large flat front comparing to a smaller lens type front. As far as comfort the ocean reef boat the guardian hands down. The ocean reef was very comfortable. ...this guardian gets pretty uncomfortable after and hour and a half of working. The most uncomfortable part is the equalization tabs that hit your nose. They come with different ones but they are all the same "depth"....just flat out uncomfortable. The ocean reefs equalization tabs are made of rounded super flat silicon, I never experienced one bit of pain or discomfort. The shaper edges of the softish silicon on the guardian is the main comfort issue with this product. Additially the silicone skirt on the ocean reef seemed to fir me better and I like the way it was designed far more, especially the chin area. As far as the second stage goes the ocean reef (basic model) also beat the OTS second stage hands down. I most use these masks for work. The ocean reef was effortless to breath even when very tired. The OTS actually at some points makes me more tired than the work I'm doing because I have to sucks so hard. Both masks were used with very high end first stages and line pressure is set to spec (135psi according to OTS). So if you want a effortless breathing mask the guardian is probably not for you. The bag the OTS comes with is nice than the ocean reef bag. Although not nearly as handy. I don't think the guardian would even be diva be without a nice swivel. For the price it sold come with one. Additially the surface air valve is a really bad design. It is too high up and if you are tired and breathing hard even with the valve totally open you are still pulling air from your tank/umbilical. The ocean reef has the surface air valve low by your face and works flawlessly. So bottom line is this. I bought the guardian for under $500 new here on amazon from OTS. I think for that price it is a good deal. But for the normal $849.99 price it is a total scam. This mask is in no way as nice as the ocean reef and the design is far less superior. The build quality is not as nice as the ocean reef...especially the second stage. It feels cheap so I'm sure won't last long being used for work. If you are wanting to use this for recreational diving I would also advise aginst it as the far more comfortable ocean reef will makes dives far more enjoyable. The guardian is also quit a lot more nougat that the ocean reef as there is more air space. I have now about 20 dives on the OTS and logged a couple thousand dives with an ocean reef. Hope my review helps someone decide what they want. Like I say for under $500 I'm a happy customer but if I would have paid normal retail I would be sending it back.

Bei der Guardian Full Face Mask handelt es sich um eine Vollgesichtsmaske aus dem Hause OTS. Diese Maske ist identisch mit der Apeks Guardian, welche allerdings nur in schwarz erhältlich ist. Im Vergleich zur klassischen Mundstückgarnitur bietet die Vollgesichtsmaske für mein Empfinden weitreichende Vorteile. Der primäre Vorteil gegenüber der Mundstückgarnitur ist der Sicherheitszugewinn, auf Grund der Ohnmachtssicherheit, der Atemregler kann Systembedingt nicht aus dem Mund fallen, wodurch die Atmung sicher gestellt wird. Des Weiteren besticht die Maske mit weiteren Vorteilen wie Tragekomfort, Nasenatmung, riesiger Sichtbereich im Vergleich zur Halbgesichtsmaske, sowie die Möglichkeit der Kommunikation unter Wasser via optionalem Buddyphone. Die Verarbeitung der Maske lässt keine Zweifel aufkommen. Sehr gut verarbeitete Doppellippe zum abdichten der Maske am Gesicht, die weder drückt noch stört. An der Maske befindet sich auch ein Oberflächenventil, bei geöffnetem Ventil über Wasser wird keine Luft aus dem Presslufttauchgerät geatmet, sondern Umgebungsluft. Der Regler der zweite Stufe rastet mit einem satten Klacken in die Fassung der Maske ein. Ein weiteres Sicherheitsdetail ist die Tatsache, dass der Atemregler nur von der Innenseite der Maske entriegelt werden kann. Der Druckausgleich erfolgt über einen Nasenblock in der Nasentasche. Dieser lässt sich durch Adapter an die Nasenanatomie anpassen und einstellen. Durch leichten Druck der Maske nach oben und hinten mittels der flachen Hand auf den Atemregler drückt der Nasenblock gegen die Nasenunterseite und dichtet so die Nasenlöcher ab und es kann gewohnt der Druckausgleich im Mittelohr hergestellt werden. Die zweite Stufe besitzt natürlich auch eine Luftdusche an der Außenseite des Atemreglers, da die Maske eigentlich während des gesamten Tauchgangs nicht abgenommen wird wohl nicht so häufig genutzt werden, sonst lässt sich damit die Maske aber sehr bequem ausblasen. Im Lieferumfang enthalten ist neben der Maske die zweite Stufe mit Mitteldruckschlauch, eine Nylontasche mit Reißverschluss, Adapter für den Nasenblock und ein Schraubenschlüssel. Die Vollgesichtsmaske ist mit allen ersten Stufen von Apeks kompatibel, allerdings nicht für alle auch zertifiziert. Ich betreibe eine zertifizierte Konfiguration mit dem Apeks XTX100. Der Atemwiderstand ist auch ohne Venturi sehr angenehm und leicht. Ein kleiner Nachteil ist wohl der Mehrverbrauch an Luft. Die Rundumsicht unter Wasser ist allerdings grandios und vermittelt ein neues Tauchgefühl, dass ich so noch nicht kannte. des Weiteren kann an der Maske mittels optionalem Adapter auch eine Kamera oder Lampe angebracht werden, so bleiben die Hände frei und es wird immer genau das gefilmt, was auch tatsächlich beobachtet wird. Wen die Kosten nicht scheuen sollten, dem kann ich diese Vollgesichtsmaske wirklich nur ans Herz legen. Es ist eine Investition in Komfort und Sicherheit die sich lohnt.
