Zircon Multiscanner A200 Electronic Wall Scanner/Metal Detector/Live AC Wire Detection With SpotLite Pointer

Very pleased with this gadget. It can certainly pick up cables and studs. As a word of warning, in my experience with ALL these types of tools, errors can occur so you need to use common sense as well. ie Do not go drilling into a wall directly above or beside a plug socket etc.

From researching online, this seems to be one of the best stud finders on the market - many of them don't work particularly well, but this one does. Have successfully used it for finding metal studs. The electricity detection feature also seems to work well.

Poor. Whilst it can detect metal it’s unreliable as a stud wall detector. Seems to have a mind of its own. For the price I expected something that would do the job. Arrived without any box, maybe a returned unit?

I wanted to hang shelves in my study which was converted from a bathroom after the bathroom moved. I know the 15mm copper (hot and cold) location as they were rerooted to the kitchen. Couple feet away is electrical wiring to a double plug socket. My original Zircon Multiscanner A200 which is 3 years old couldnt detect them behind a cm or two plaster so I bought this same model one and again couldnt detect the copper pipes or wiring. Bought new batteries same result. I bought a Bosch detector Truvo 2nd which is half the price and it was able to detect the copper pipe and wiring. Dont waste your money. Even deepscan was useless.

It feels solid in hand, the display is clear and readable even in dim lighting, and the controls are intuitive enough that I didn't need to crack open the manual once.The multi-scan capability is where this thing really shines. Being able to detect wood and metal studs, live AC wiring, and metal pipes in a single pass is genuinely useful — especially when you're working on older construction where you have no idea what's hiding behind the drywall. The AC detection alone is worth the price of admission. I've found live wires in spots I never would have suspected, which could have been a very bad day with a drill.Accuracy has been excellent. Edge detection is precise and consistent — I've verified it repeatedly by opening up walls during renovation work and the A200 called every stud edge correctly. No hunting and pecking, no second-guessing. Mark the edge, mark the other edge, find center, done.The deep scan mode is a nice bonus for thicker walls or when you're working through multiple layers of drywall. It handles that without complaint where lesser finders just give up.Battery life is solid too. I've had it in rotation on a multi-week project and haven't had to swap batteries once.If you're doing any serious work — hanging cabinets, mounting TVs, running cable, framing assessments — stop messing around with the $15 magnetic finders and just get this. It's reliable, accurate, and gives you information you can actually act on with confidence. Highly recommended.

It gets good reviews so I thought I was worth the extra $ however it often indicates a stud where there is none, even with multiple passes in multiple directions
