Great story of wooden ships and iron men
Note, that I do come from Cape Ann (for generations) with connections to this.I bought this book thinking there would be good photos, which there is. But amazed how good the stores where to read. Compared to "organized yachtie sail racing". For this group when two schooners decided to have a race. One had just come in with 8tons of fish on board, and no time to unload. They head out for the match in 60mph hour winds. (That is near sailing in hurricanes conditions for fun!) Then all the back and forth and positioning over the years. I completely enjoyed this.

excellent historical account
I liked this book very much...it contains information and photoswhich are hard to access from museums and private collections whichare spread out across the country and in Canada. The author went to greatlengths to include background information and 'behind the scenes' contextthat I found very informative. A few of my own relatives are mentioned in thebook and I was pleased with the accurate way they were described.

Well researched and illustrated
Very good account of the last 40 years of fishing the Grand banks under sail. Whole story well set in the context of the era and attention paid to some of the remarkable sailors and designers of these splendid fishing schooners. Illustrations are excellent.
