Yes, on/ off switch is on the power cord. I used an old phone charger to plug USB into outlet.

Can i use a fast charger? is it smart enough to choose 5v and not a 9v output?

It is a nice question, yes it can be used fast charger. The lights do not have 9V receiver inside, so if you using faster charger(Adapter) it is work for 5V output only also.
