Passion Paperback – September 1, 1994

Beautiful show, beautiful script. Thrilled to add it to my collection!

As with all of Sondheim's shows, with the possible exceptions of Follies and Sweeney Todd, the book is very hard to read without some sort of knowledge of the score, because that's what dominates the show. Other than a few scattered spoken passages, PASSION is completely sung-through. My recommendation would be to listen to the original cast recording as you read, so you can better understand the action.

It seems this book hab been stolen from the local library! Is it right??? That is very very very strange...

I just got my copy of the vocal score of Sondheim's "Passion" and I should say it is a Broadway collector's joy to have one of these. The entire book contains all the music, lyrics, and underscores. An average pianist may find it quite difficult to play the music but when played by an expert it makes it sound almost as if you're playing the entire orchestra! Anyone who loves collecting Broadway music definitely wouldn't want to miss owning a copy of this fabulous musical. This goes better together with the script which is also available from Amazon.

Passion is an excellent show. It won the Tony for best musical in 1994.One of the things that I find most fascinating about this score is the way it flows from song to dialogue and back again. Songs segue into one another without breaking flow or style. There are no set applause points, no big dance numbers, just a moving, touching story told with some of the most beautiful music ever written for the stage.If you are a Sondheim fan at all, or if you would like to own an achingly beautiful collection of love songs, this is definitely the score for you.

While this book is simply amazing... you should either get thecd to listen to while reading this script or watch the movie tohear/see the fabulous performances and Sondheim's glorious music. This book is still worth buying even if you aren't able to hear the score. This play works in mysterious ways and bring out many passionate feelings in anyone with a heart. It conveys and brings forth emotions from anger to pity with Fosca, love and hate, hapiness and depression... This is a truly beautiful book!
