I like to keep my ear buds in this. I used to keep my ear buds in my pocket but they tended to fall out. I've lost 3 or 4 pair of ear buds that way. You can also keep other small items in this compartment. I keep a pen and a package of tissues in there too. All in all, a very good product! While the easy access flap does make it easy to get at your phone, it does also make it easier for thieves to get at tit, too. so, I've opted to use the zippered compartment to store my phone, and keep business cards, and maybe some candy in the outer pouch for my diabetes. Also, inside the zippered compartment, one can store a glucometer, an injection pen, lancing device, lancets, and the phone. I really like that the factory used an end to end stitched attachment point for the belt loop. Not a Velcro one, which could've slipped off. Also a plus, is the heavy duty clip for the belt loop on one's trousers. My only gripe for this product is that the outer compartment really won't protect your phone in the rain. Would've been better if the outer pocket had gone all the way up to the flap, and if the flap had more than just a magnetic clasp to close the flap with. Quick access magnetic flap on front for phone. But also has zipper compartment that is even deeper that can hold notebook or tools or personal items. Compact and net.
