I'm an amatuer astronomer. Some of the USB cables I use deliver power to devices (like cameras). You need to pay attention to the wire gage on your cables if whats on the other end of the cable is being powered through the cable. Good cables are marked on their jacket as far as the wire gage for data and power. 28 AWG (gage) is fine for data. For 5V power to the the device, you want the largest (lower gage number) you can find to combat voltage drop to your device. Some astronomy cameras can draw near 0.5 amps. Figure that current draw across the USB cable length and you may encounter considerable voltage drop that might make your device at the end of the cable fall short of its operating voltage requirement.Look for at least 24 AWG on the jacket of the cable. Then you won't have any worries or malfunctions due to starving the device for power. And you want it printed so on the cable jacket so when you go through your bin of USB cables, you can pick out what you want.Don't mess around with a lesser product! If you do, you'll get bitten somewhere down the road and spend a lot of time figuring out why things don't work. Nip it in the bud! You'll have other things to worry about if you're trying to get astrophotography system working dependably.In general, when it comes to assembling a reliable system... don't cut corners! Repeating... don't cut corners! Or you will spend more time touble shooting than enjoying your design.Take it from me: been bitten more than I care to tell. So pass it on, USB wire gage is important.

A previous reviewer complained about getting cables that weren't made by Tripp Lite; the cable ends and the bag my cables came in both clearly state Tripp Lite.I ordered three of these. I already had several other USB extension cables (not Tripp Lite) that are so extremely useful that I ordered three more. Some ways I use them or have used them in the past are to extend the USB cable of a printer, scanner, external drive, or keyboard, and to give easy front access to a computer's rear USB ports.You should always check the manufacturer's recommendations for the device you're attaching it to. Some recommend that USB cables not extend more than a certain length.These cables are so useful in so many different situations that I prefer to buy them in six foot lengths and use ties to wrap them neatly when I need them shorter rather than buy a shorter cable that might be too short for some uses. Whether you should buy six foot or a shorter cable depends entirely on what your situation is.I have no way of knowing whether these cables work any better than other brands, or whether it's genuine gold on the connectors, but they do work, the cables I received are exactly the cables I ordered, and the price was right.

Love to find good buys on Tripp-lite cable. Most have lifetime warranties, but in 16 years of buying them, have never needed that warranty.

I wanted a long cable for more convenient charging of my phone. This cable works with all of my chargers to charge at the maximum rate allowed. So it performs exactly as expected and required. I was looking at another cable. But when I saw this cable from tripp lite for less money, which I know from experience makes great products, I ordered it right away.This tripp-lite cable exudes quality. The connectors are gold plated. The connections are solid and tight but not too tight. tripp lite can be an under the radar brand for computer buyers. Rest assured, their products are premium quality and usually priced very well. This usb extension cable is a couple of $$ less than the comparable and more popular 10ft extension cable sold here, for what I believe is the same high quality. I like paying less money for equal quality. If you do too, and you need a usb extension cable, you might want to look at this one.

Seems to work...It would be more assuring to buyer and prospective customers, if advertisement says whether the cable is shielded and is it 100%, or how much. Also ferrite bead noise (RFI) noise suppressors near the ends would be nice to minimize cable noise (RFI) emissions and minimize levels of these picked up by the cable.
