very well informed as always with Robert Fisk...independent views....

I really enjoyed the unique formatting and multiple perspectives the book offered. The book was in chronological order of articles/journal entries, written by three writers from The Independent, which made it an interesting read. As a student who was not very well informed about the Arab Spring before reading the book, I was very pleased to learn about the Arab Spring and all the countries involved in the entirety of the event. Although reading this book was required for a class I am taking, I could easily see myself reading the book outside of this class for leisure.

Interesting, sheds light on the many conflicting parties and interests. Assad emerges as reasonably enlightened before he started murdering his people.As for the poor Arab peoples........la plus ca change.....

Robert Fisk is my hero for his Middle East writings. A man I visited in Beirut and corresponded with. We spoke on the phone when he was at 'home' in Dublin and he told me how so very happy he was with his new wife. He adored her. I know Egypt very well and the Middle East in general. But Fisk acquainted me with truths I would never have otherwise known. Just like the author Saïd Aburish. Fisky is dead now so God bless him. He agreed with me in our last conversation that he reports "but no one does anything about it". The Middle East is doomed. Fisk made that very clear. Where is Islam in fact? Disappeared. Robert Fisk sided with the oppressed. I was truly amazed at his bravery and his instinct for survival. His detractors can go to hell.

Fisk and Co did justice to an intractable history and region which no journalist can do. They know the region.
