The Magdalene Deception: 1 (The Magdalene Chronicles)

Interesting history.
The main protagonists were well developed and easy to like or dislike depending upon their agenda while the delivery of the plot was surprisingly well-balanced. Gary Macavoy handled both aspects of the Vatican with a deft touch rather than simply casting it as a villainous institution so I found that to be a refreshing take on a well-used theme. The mention of the Ustasha was also very welcome as the Nazi group is still active and should be recognised for what it is and the atrocities that it committed during WW2. All in all a good tale involving interesting history so I'll be reading the next one.

The Magdalene Deception (Magdalene Chronicles).
Good fast paced story which kept my interest throughout ( I read it in two days). The main characters were quite believable, though I would have liked more of a back story for Cardinal Dante, he was for me the least believable character, he felt a bit like the pantomime villain.I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series

Entertaing.
Basically a re-work of the "Da Vinci Code". Kept me entertained but read "The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail" for a different viewpoint. Not sure how many different takes there can be on Rennes-Le-Chateau.

Cleverly intertwining fact and fiction both with the story and it's charaters.
This book is the best fictional novel that i have read in the last 2-3 years. Mr. McAvoy has so cleverly interwoven fact and true characters with a brilliant fictional situations. It was so difficult to put it down that I read it in two days! So many thanks to the author for grabbing the attention of the reader that makes you want to know 'what happens next'. He has created believable characters, both good and bad and ends the book by leaving you wanting to know the next chapter.

Religious fiction
Quite an entertaining story about old religious documents discovered in the Vatican and also in the possession of an old lady which could shake the basis of Christian religions and also Nazi gold plundered during WWII and stored in Swiss banks and the Vatican bank and the reluctance of corrupt priests to return it to it's rightful owners. Helped by Hana Sinclair (reporter), Michael Dominic thwarts a corrupt Interpol agent's plot to extort the gold for terrorist purposes and the cover up of the document continues.

Wow
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, it did take a while to start as the author laid the groundwork of the story. However I could not put it down and love his take on the crucifixion of Christ and the infamous church in France. It is a well researched book and the characters are great. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Oh Dear
I am afraid I was unable to finish this book. I have read many books over the years by various writers, I have only ever been unable to finish a book once before.I found much of the descriptions unnecessary. Although I tried to engage with the characters in the book, I found them to be almost wooden and not very convincing. The story line has been done to death so was rather predictable. Sorry, some may enjoy it but it's not for me.
