The P-40 in action
This work is a companion piece to an earlier volume, which described a prior version of the P-40 (famously associated with "The Flying Tigers" in China). The two major versions of the P-40 (with a large number of variations within each) was a product of Curtiss-Wright, headquartered in Buffalo. And, yes, the Wright part of the company was for the Wright Brothers. The company sold a very large number of these aircraft. But they were only adequate and--oddly enough--Curtiss-Wright did not receive contracts for aircraft after this fighter. The primary author has a long background studying and writing about the P-40, so that he is well qualified to write this book. That expertise is, indeed, obvious in this volume. Sometimes, though, it can almost be too much. From page 21 to page 41 is an array of technical specifications of the variety of snub-nosed P-40s. The difference between the earlier versions of the P-40 and the later is due to a change in powerplants. Much of the discussion is pretty technical, and sometimes I had a hard time following the text. There is a nice (although perhaps too brief) discussion of the combat deployment of the P-40--from west to east. Many countries purchased the P-40.All in all, a solid discussion of this aircraft.

Very good little reference on one of America's under appreciated war planes. The P-40 didn't have the sparkling performance of some later fighters, but was rugged and reliable and had the virtue of being available in large numbers. In the hands of a well trained pilot, it could hold its own and served well as a ground attack aircraft. Excellent technical detail and a good summary of the Kitty Hawk's operational history in American and Allied hands.

The second rate fighter thaat was everywhere
Never a star, but in its many variants, this was one of the ubiquitous fighters of early WW II. This book points out in detail the many theaters where the P-40 served adequately. The book describes extensively the variations that were done and why, as well as the efforts by Curtiss-Wright to come up with a more advanced aircraft.

I am a big WWII warbird and air war history buff. This book was very good in that it included technical information on development as well as historic info about the P-40 in combat. I recommend it.

Wonderful illustrations
As a P-40 fan, I tend to jump at the chance to purchase any P-40 related books. I have read Molesworth previously, and found his work detailed and informative. This effort is no different. While I did not find anything new, the concise history and informative content will make this and its companion book, excellent introductions to the P-40 for any history buff, or modeler.

A book about my favourite WW2 plane
I have had an interest in the Curtiss P40 for some time but was unable to find reference material specifically about the plane itself and not those who flew itUntil nowWhilst it does list who flew the P40 and where the book does go into great detail regarding the different marks of the aircraft and its developmentThoroughly interesting I'd recommend to all aviation enthusiasts and P40 fans alike!!

Robust foot soldier of the air war
Good review of the strengths and weaknesses of this important aircraft. Interesting to learn more about the company and the personalities involved in its genesis. Still Osprey could be a little more insightful on the technical side and in comparison with its opponents. Long tables on the different sub-models are not that informative.

Interesting History
Lots of facts and figures, but a good read nevertheless! Incredible range of theatres this aircraft fought in during World War Two makes for interesting reading.
