Chair Zero Ultralight Compact Camping Chair

It's a lightweight, comfortable chair. Don't expect it to be your TV room couch :) I bought one and liked it so much we bought a second one for my wife. PRO: - Lightweight, easy to carry - Sturdy - Small - about a 1 liter Nalgene bottle - Puts you at a good level for tending a fire, cooking on a camp stove on the ground, and similar activities. CAVEATS: - Legs may sink in a little on soft ground. If it does, get up and shift it a little to a new spot. - Works best on level surfaces. If you're on a slope, you will either tend to slide out the front of the seat, or tip over backwards. A manageable situation. - Getting in and out. Because this is so low, you may want to modify your technique for getting in and out. To sit down, I straddle a corner of it, heels close to the seat, and sit. To stand up, forget leaning forward and getting up like usual. I find it much easier to turn toward a corner, scooch closer to the corner, bring your heels all the way back almost under the chair - this puts them under your behind. Standing up is a whole lot easier that way with your legs lined up on your center of gravity. CONS - It IS mesh, so if there's a cool breeze blowing, this won't block much of it. Dress appropriately or use a Z Seat.

I’m honestly surprised that I bought this chair as expensive as it is. But I fell victim to the ultralight sickness. I don’t really regret it. It’s so impressive to put this chair together and feel how light it really is. Even more impressive is that it is functional and strong. Obviously, this chair doesn’t have the height or stability of other heavier or more traditional camp chairs. But boy is it cool.

I lead my boys' scouting group and we do a lot of backpacking camping. I used to take a Thermarest pad and sit on a rock, but still that was tough on my old knees. This is a dream come true! A super lightweight chair (without the stuff bag, it weighs a pound and fits perfectly in the side pocket of my backpack. A little tricky to set up the first few times. Did not want to force the poles in the pockets for fear of ripping the pockets. Nice there are only 2 pieces though - the poles, which fold up, and the chair seat/back. Nothing to get lost! Not the most comfortable chair to sit in, but better than sitting on the ground. To ensure balance, it is best to stretch out the legs as opposed to keeping them close to the chair. The back is shorter than I would like for normal use, as I would love to rest my shoulders back after a day of backpacking. Regardless of these two design aspects, I love sitting in this chair vs. on the ground. I feel comfortable in the chair from the perspective of holding my weight (5'7" & 170 lbs). I can sit by a fire in this chair for hours and feel comfortable. For cold weather, I purchased REI's Flexlite Chair Underquit which fits the Chair Zero perfectly! The extra insulation is easy to put on and makes a big difference in freezing temps. It is also a lightweight quilt so does not increase the packweight. Overall, glad I have this in my kit to make backpacking more comfortable. Recommend!

I don't often take a chair with my on longer trips, but I certainly have enjoyed taking this one on my day hikes (2-13 miles). It's so light you don't notice and is very steady (especially with optional ground cloth I picked up somewhere - prevents legs from sinking). This chair works very well, very stable, easy to set up, feels like nothing in my pack. It's so nice to pull up to a river after walking 5-10 miles, sit comfortably and brew some coffee. 100% would buy again. For me, using the ground sheet (can't remember if this was included or if I bought separately) is a must have - probably for any chair to keep the legs from sinking into loose soil or sand. Have to admit it looks sharp as well and fits me - 5'11" and 230 pounds without compliant. Oh, folds up nicely and not a struggle to slip it into my day pack.

This chair is great. Easy to assemble and feels great to sit in. Folds up nicely and does not take up a lot of space when broken down to pack out. What has impressed me the most is the strength of the chair. Feels incredibly stable and strong when sitting in it. Have no doubt for its size that it hold up the test of time. I will get another in the future.

The greatest pro of this chair is the weight. It weighs practically nothing - I clipped it to a belt. It's also easy to put together and store back in the pouch. It's not the most comfortable chair, but it serves the purpose well. I'm not sure I'd want to sit in it for hours on end but it works well for shorter periods of time (I'd say 3 hours would be pushing it past the level of comfort). I weigh less than 130 lbs and my husband weighs less than 190 lbs. He felt the same as I did about it for comfort. It's probably the best you can get for the amount of material and weight, but I'm not sure it's really worth the high price tag unless you plan on using it many times. It would probably be fantastic for hikers - the feather weight plus compact size. We took it to the diamond mines in Arkansas and it definitely took the strain off of digging and sifting. It sits quite low to the ground and would work best on a flat, hard surface - although we had no serious issues with it in the dry dirt (a little wobbly but didn't feel like it was going to snap or anything). It was also extremely hot (pushing 100 F) when we went and I didn't find the chair too hot or sweaty. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a compact, light weight chair that doesn't mind spending the extra $$.

More comfortable than sitting on the ground but I wish it was a little taller. I'm 6'4", 230 lbs, and 68 years young. It isn't easy to "fall" into the chair and even harder for me to get out gracefully. 🤣 It's not really the chairs fault. It has held up very well even when I fall into it. If it was 6" higher, or if I was shorter or younger, it would be perfect for me. I know it would be a little heavier but it would be worth it for me. I highly recommend it.

Quick review after receiving the Chair Zero and testing at home. I'll update my review in 3 weeks after we camp a few weekends. First impression is we are blown away by the comfort for the fact that this is designed first and foremost to be light for hike in camping. It's definitely more expensive than others but I truly believe the industry leading weight loss is worth an extra $20-30 for a chair that should last. It's very low to the ground but still comfortable. Granted I'm not big at 5'9 150, but the chair cup is pretty roomy. There is a little bit of stability issues but I think most of these lightweight chairs have that given the low profile. But the 'normal' seated position feels comfortable to sit for a couple of hours, especially after a long hike. Assembly after the first try is easy, as is packing it back up. You are likely paying for the high end aluminum so hopefully it lasts. Outdoor Gear Lab rates this as their top buy so should be good to go. There are most definitely cheaper options out there, and if you don't do hike-in camping I would say try some other chairs that probably have more to them. But if you want a chair that is super light, but still comfortable for any type of camping. This might be it. I'll be back to review after really breaking them in.

Pricy but worth it. Not putting 5 stars due to the price. It's comfy, lightweight, easy to carry, quick to build and pack. I love it.

Looking for a "camping" chair, but travelling by bicycle, so needs to be light and compact, I was absolutely blown away by this product. having tried a couple, some returned before even opening, due to size and weight, this product is absolutely everything it says on the tin. Literally the size of a 1.5ltr Coke Bottle, but weighing less, this product is absolutely essential for anyone wanting a lightweight chair. Easy to assemble, with shock chorded legs and struts, and an easy to fit fabric seating, this really is a 10/10 product. I could not be happier

Best light weight camp chair. If you backpack and are our 55 yrs.dont hesitate. Not your recliner but not your livingroom either don't buy footprint unless you are to use in sand
