Chopin The Complete Recordings On Deutsche Grammophon

Chopin, for Argerich, is where the heart lies in many ways, and it shines through in many ways in this outstanding DG collection of all of Argerich's Chopin recordings for the German label. Argerich's unsurpassed technical skill combines with her artistry in embodying, not interpreting, the various Chopin compositions on the five CDs. For my money, nothing and no-one surpasses her recording of the Preludes Op. 28, where Argerich plays them as Chopin seems to have intended - individual pieces BUT also as part of an integral whole. Her phrasing, use of rubato, her dynamism, and emotion - she doesn't overwhelm the material but rather lets each moment and note sound for itself. Her Op. 28, #15, "Raindrop," in particular is magnificent, and 4:15 mini-epic. The Scherzos, #s 2 & 3 are also mini-masterpieces, as are the concertos, sonatas, pieces with Rostropovich, mazurkas, nocturnes and more. The muse speaks right through Argerich ... I could listen to this collection endlessly. One of the pre-eminent pianists of the past 100 years, certainly on most critics top ten if not five lists.

Martha has always been one of my favorite pianists and this is a must have for both Chopin and her fans alike.

Martha Argerich has always been my favorite player of Chopin, and all of her recordings are here in this set. Her expression, movement, and interpretation are impeccable. This combines with Deutsche Grammophon's clear, balanced recording to make what is to me a necessary collection for anyone who loves Chopin. Pure joy.

My favorite composer being played by one of the great artists of our time, Martha Argerich. What's not to like?

The title is misleading as I thought they were all the pieces Chopin wrote. But, they are all the Chopin pieces that she recorded. So, I am disappointed. But, they are wonderful recordings.
