desertcart.com: Petrainer Dog Training Collar with Remote - Bark Collar, Beep Vibration, Static Electric, 1000FT Range : Pet Supplies

Review: Great Product, and an Excellent Value! - I'm rather impressed with the quality, and functionality, of this product, especially for the price. It's well made, sturdy (I've admittedly dropped the remote a few times, with no apparent issues), and certainly gets the job done when needed, even with my rather headstrong, 8-month old male Shepherd. I'm not sure it will continue to be as effective when he's fully grown, but for basic reinforcement of training, it definitely fits the bill. The only cons I've experienced thus far are as follows... 1) The little rubber tab that is intended to pull out the entire rubber insert/seal covering the charge ports out of it's seat tore away off after a few charges, but it really doesn't affect my ability to still get the seal out from the corner. Maybe just thickening one of the corners, for better fingernail contact, would work better? 2) I sometimes wonder if, even with the longest prongs, it's making a constant good connection with his skin on the shock setting due to his fur, as sometimes he responds much more noticeably to the shock setting than others. However, this either be due to the collar still being a bit loose (I recently set it to the tightest normal setting I could... see below), or it could just be an inherent, and unavoidable, shortcoming of the concept as a whole, yet if so, I honestly can't envision a better way to do it? 3) Having some sort of instructions on how to loop the collar for smaller dogs (he was a runt, and only about 30 lbs. when I first "introduced" him to it) would have been appreciated. While I did ultimately figure out a workable configuration, I pride myself on having excellent problem-solving skills, and still scratched my head for a few on this one! LOL Regardless, the unit is an overall excellent value in my opinion, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it again... even if, or when, this one possibly reaches the end of it's lifespan. I frankly don't foresee that happening any time soon, though, unless the battery eventually stops holding a good charge? Only (a lot of) time will tell on that one, though.
Review: Effective, and the vibrate mode is all it took. - i- Tronics has been sincerely committed to our satisfaction with this product. And the trainer collar itself? WOW! Why did we not try this years ago!!? We have a schnoodle who always wanted to bark at night. He is not a yapper, but come nightfall ( in his mind )there were things "out there" that needed barking at. If you have a dog that does this, you'll know what I mean! We found that if we gave him a reward when he came in, instead of scolding him - we did not even mention the barking behavior, just "Ernie. do you want this?" In a friendly voice, he'd come running right back inside (most of the time) to get his cookie. Which was great, but was not the ultimate answer. I don't think he ever went out to bark in order to get a reward when he came in, but he sincerely expected a reward when we called him. Funnily, this is not what prompted me to try this collar. At about 6 years of age, with no prior problem with this, he began "humping" legs when he was happy to see someone, or when my sweetie had his attention turned toward me, if you get my drift. So, I investigated collars, NEVER knew there were collars out there that had a vibrate function, I only was aware of the static shock type. I saw this collar, read about the vibrate, etc, and decided it was worth a try. It only took once, to get the humping to stop (on vibrate, turned to max lol) Every so often he regresses. but I only have to put the collar on him, and its enough. So, it worked so well, I tried it for the night barking. He can not run back into the house fast enough if he gets vibrated! This took a few consecutive nights, but, it too stopped the behavior. And, like with the humping we only (usually) have to put the collar on him, and its enough. No zapping required. This is such an affordable option when it comes these dog control collars too. I remember being torn between this one, and another that cost a lot more (but had more reviews) and took the chance on this one. I'm so glad I did. So, now I know it doesn't even take a shock, the vibrate was extremely effective, and I'm sure our neighbors appreciate it too :)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there a light on the receiver that blinks or flashes periodically?**
A: There is a red light on the collar that flashes and a light on the hand held that flashes when you activate the unit. This devise has been a life saver for me.

**Q: Does this fit a large breed? 140+ lb dog.**
A: The collar maybe too small. I have a 12 pound daschund and the collar was too big. It is easy to put on your current collar which is what I did. Works great.

**Q: Has anyone used this on a 17 pound dog? Last collar i bought that was "safe for all sizes" was way too strong**
A: A: This transmitter has variable power control settings. It goes from one to 100. I tested it on my bare arm. On 1 I could barely feel it. 15 was definitely noticeable. I got all the way to 70 before stopping. If you follow the training instructions your dog will lean that after vibrate come the static shock if the don’t listen. After just a few time after the static, my dog I almost never need to do more then the vibrate with my dog.

**Q: This looks heavy. My dog is only 10 lbs. Will that be a problem?**
A: The unit that goes around the neck is 2.6 oz. including the collar ( just weighed it). My dog is 40 lbs.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not sure if you can beat it for the price.

This collar went on a 90lbs German Shepherd. First - collar fit and quality - The collar that comes with was plenty big enough for her with room to expand. I switched to the long contact prongs right away and had no issues with them making contact through her thick neck coat. The collar and clasp are basically a standard bargain collar with a plastic clasp. If you have a small dog you can use this for pretty much anything you would use a collar for. If you have a bigger dog this collar's only purpose can be for the training device. (Ex. If I were to tie my dog up using this collar, she would snap it and might not even realize she had been hooked up to anything). If your dog likes having a collar on like mine does, this collar works great. If you have a dog that doesn't like collars or has a habit of ripping them off or breaking them, keep an eye on it or replace it with something a bit more durable. Second - the static shock trainer - To start out, my dog has never and will never go through anything that I will not go through myself. So while testing the collar to see what settings to use for her I found that there is a huge range between minimum and maximum but there are some crazy jumps in output. 1-21 I couldn't feel anything AT ALL. 22 was the first setting that I could feel anything, possibly imagination, but I don't think so because 23-64 were all a gradual climb. Once I got to 65 though, the increase was no longer gradual. 60 was the lowest setting that I believe would have any effect whatsoever with my dog and there was barely a change to 64. By the time I got to 75 I was already at the point where I shouldn't need to go any higher for any training purpose at all. 80 was already difficult to maintain a grip on the trainer and 92 is where I stopped climbing because it was just too much.(my last German Shepherd was a 105lbs male, got lose from me and got in a fight with a 120lbs rottweiler, both were on choke chain leashes and it still took 4 grown men to separate them. 80 would have sent them both flying back to their owners...). I waited about half an hour then tested it at full power(100) just in case there is any issue with the trainer or a mistake on my part because I had to know what would happen to her and after about 10-15 minutes I started getting feeling back in my arm from a 3 second jolt. Now there may be an animal out there that the jolt this thing produces is needed for but it sure as hell is not meant for a member of my family.(maybe a bear). Third - range - this is my only complaint....partially. There is supposed to be a 900ft range on this thing and perhaps there is...I have not had her out in the open field with direct line of sight at 900ft but at 200 yards it works while I can see her and she can see me, however it does not work if I am on one side of my house and she is 100 yards away on the other side of my house. However I do not need line of sight for anything 75 yards and below. The range appears to be between 75and 100 yards without line of sight. Now I said "partially" because perhaps this is common with most trainers and they require line of sight to be effective to full range. Even if it is a common thing, I believe it should still be mentioned in the description. If it is not a common thing then it definitely needs to be in the description. In case anyone wonders why I would try to train my dog when she can't see me, I bought this for teaching her that she has boundaries even when I'm not around but she has way too much space for a containment fence. I have never had an issue with her running off when I am where she can she me. It's when she can't see me and thinks I can't see her that she likes to explore beyond her boundaries...which she already knows. Now she thinks when I'm with her it's ok to go wherever, which I want, but when I'm not with her she believes she will get shocked when crossing the property line. It was just a bit more of a pain trying to watch her from the roof instead of from my property line cameras on my computer. Forth - battery - This one is quick. I do not know how long the charge can last till dead from experience. What I do know is that after 18 hours it does still have a charge. In summary, make sure your dog is used to having a collar of some sort on. Test the settings to find a reasonable training level and take it as high as you are willing to go and never exceed that setting. If you aren't willing to take it then you have no right to put someone/something else through it. And keep in mind that the range is good for line of sight but without line of sight your range will be reduced significantly. All in all, I believe this is an excellent trainer, especially for the price, I docked 1 star but that was more for the description, or rather lack of, than for the product itself.
