What is the difference between this charger and my nook charger?

You probably just used a charger that was higher that 5W/1A, which is as low as they go. Most chargers will adapt to the device, or vice versa, but if a Kindle somehow can't handle a higher rated charger, then it's a POS, because this adapter is worth $3, tops, in 2018. It's the most generic kind there is -- it is literally the same, EXACT cheap adapter that comes with EVERY Amazon Echo, FireTV, Kindle, or Fire Tablet. So, if your gonna get waste $20 on one, you might as well spend the extra 5-20, to get an Echo, Dot or Fire Stick and use that adapter for your fragile Kindle, then use ANY other adapter (even the USB port on the back of your TV, for a FireTV Stick) to power the $20 off device you just got. Heck, you'd be best off to wait for one of the 30 sales a year that Amazon has on its electronic devices, and just get a new, better, updated Kindle for what becomes an incredibly cheap buy, at $20 off. This may be THE most overpriced item on Amazon, although you'd have to go through their entire line of Amazon Basics, to make sure. Their crap is ALL overpriced garbage.

What is the difference between this usb and the usb charger plug ins i use for my ipad, ipad mini and samsung galaxy s4 phone?

There is a HUGE difference, the iPad charger is 12W, 5.2V, 2.4A where the iPhone is 5W, 5V, 1A. I have personally fried a Android phone accidentally plugging it into my iPad charger. So, I would be careful using the iPad charger. The iPhone charger is okay to use as a substitute.

do i need a USB caBle for my kindle charger?

Yes...This item is just the plug. You will need to get the USB cable that mates with plug and your kindle

Can I use this adapter on 220 volt systems as well as 110 volt? (I know I'll need a plug adapter.)

If your charger specifies a 100-240 volt input, it will work in Europe and other places that use 50 Hz 240 Volt AC. There should be an text block (usually very faint print, very small print) on the charger that, along with the voltage range provides the hertz range (should say 50-60 Hz). So long as you have both (100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz), it will work outside the US, with the proper plug adapter. No need for a voltage transformer. This generally holds true for all SMALL consumer electronics (cell phones, tablets, electric razors or toothbrushes) are all configured to be charged regardless of country. There are even multi voltage curling irons. BUT if your charger only says 10-120 VAC, 60 Hz, then it won't work without a voltage transformer. That would be very rare, though. Believe me, we've taken all of our small electronics overseas with a couple of these chargers and some adapter plugs only, no issues at all. Used in the UK and throughout the continent (France, Italy). Each location has their unique adapter plugs, but those are all you need.

Nice Quality Amazon OEM 5W Chargers! But Overpriced!

I had to buy 3 of these Amazon 5W USB Official OEM Charger and Power Adapter for Fire Tablets and Kindle eReaders - Black. I needed 3 of these Amazon 5W OEM chargers! One each for my 2 Kindle Paperwhites 10th Gen, and my Fire 7 12th Gen. These are very nice quality real Amazon 5W OEM Chargers, so I trust them for my Amazon devices! - My 2 Kindle Paperwhites HAVE to use a 5W watt charger! I keep each of my Kindles at a separate location, so I needed a 5W charger for each one! No chargers were supplied with either Kindle. I did not have any 5W chargers on-hand in my box of used, unused, and assorted Watt/size chargers! - My new Fire 7 Tablet came with a tiny, very cheap, very slow, Amazon 5W charger! It was not as nice as these replacement Amazon 5W USB Official OEM Chargers. So I bought one of these nicer quality ones for my new Fire 7 tablet. Then I'll use that very cheapo 5W Amazon charger that came with the Fire 7, to charge my small flashlights instead. I do think that these Amazon 5W USB Official OEM Chargers are quite overpriced at around $20! I wish Amazon would either reduce the price of these Amazon 5W USB Official OEM Chargers, or supply these nice ones with their devices that NEED 5Watt only chargers! Not everyone has 5Watt chargers on-hand.

Only use on kindle

Be sure you connect it very securely as it didn’t charge until I inserted it further. Quick charge.

Great basic charger for kindles

I actually got mine way back in 2020, as it came bundled with my Kindle, which was super convenient, it’s been a pretty solid little charger and has met my expectations for keeping my Kindle juiced up, what I’ve always appreciated is that, being an official Amazon product, it just works reliably with my Kindle, charging it fully in what feels like a reasonable time, it's a dependable, no fuss charger that does exactly what it's supposed to for their Kindles, it has a decent charging speed and official compatibility. It's pretty straightforward: a USB A brick. If I had to offer a tiny bit of constructive criticism, it’s a fairly basic, single port design, nothing fancy, and it’s specifically for devices using a micro USB cable.
