I ordered the Squid Assist and only change I would make for a kid's first blade would be ordering a regular Squid (no assist).It's a smaller blade but has a nice hefty feel. My adult hands find it to be comfortable to hold but it'd be perfect for smaller hands. The liner lock is easy to use, the flipper makes opening fun and easy, and all the edges are smoothed for comfort. The blade itself is nice and sharp but the blade tip is not. This is a good thing! While it can't be used as an exact knife replacement it isn't meant to be. Only complaint I have is the pocket clip. I hate this style of clip and find it to be more difficult to slide onto a pocket. My preference would be a smooth clip but this one downside is easy to overlook and forget.I plan on ordering this for my kid once they're old enough.

Like the majority of readers, I’m a collector. From fixed blade, to folding. I kind of have a bit of everything. I’m typically skeptical when buying a brand I’m not super familiar with. But I have to say I’d buy this again and, I recommend it. Can’t even tell it’s in my pocket. Solid build, great action. Zero complaints.

I' m a fan of CRKT knives and as an office worker, had hoped this might be a nice knife to carry in dress slacks. It's hard to tell from the internet, so I was a bit surprised by just how large and heavy this knife is. It seems to be almost intentionally larger and heavier than necessary- I have no idea why the blade edge to its spine is so thick, it could have been half what it is with no detriment to usability.I've combed through the CRKT offerings and can't seem to find a small and light knife, so if anyone there is reading this, I'd encourage you to consider offering one.

Haven't used it yet but it's just the size i was looking for. Feels sturdy and solid in my hand. I have above average size hands and it fits great.

I have the CRKT Squid in the dark stone washed finish and love the color. This one is satin but is an assisted open. What a difference for not a lot of money. Another quality product from CRKT
