Dream On

A love letter to Cleveland and choosing your path
I had to download this book from the library after finishing "Shipped" at the start of the year. I had a vague idea of the plot, but knew that I found Hockman's writing to be thoroughly relatable and endearing. "Dream On" did not disappoint! First person POV from Cass.I liked the long-term reveal of the truth of Cass' dream relationship with Devin. There are hints of "Finding Ivy", for Claire Kingsley fans. But Hockman keeps things much more PG-13...with a brief visit to R town at the very end. But it's romance, who's keeping track?Like in "Shipped", we get a well-rounded view of our narrator, Cass. She's a fresh lawyer starting out in big law (corporate) with her dream firm. I really enjoyed the explanation and exploration of her career motivations from her mom, friends, and love interests.Yes, plural love interests because Devin has an adorably sweet and hot brother, Perry. I called the love triangle from the start but we're here to enjoy the ride. The best friend, Brie, is given agency and a love interest too. I liked that Cass didn't have all the big, romantic ideas. Also, Brie's LGBTQ status is just accepted, totally normal. As it should be! Friendship is a strong theme here, which is great.Solid banter throughout, some nice slow burn romantic tension (mostly with Perry), a would-be villain with a backstory, and amazing event planning. My review title was on point because this book made me want to visit Cleveland! And try painting! Also, loved the "Jane the Virgin" reference, great show!

Dream on
The storyCass has just written the bar exam when a terrible car accident results in a days long coma. When she wakes up, she is certain she has a boyfriend called Devin who she’s been seeing for a few months. But her family and best friend know nothing about it. One day, she meets the real Devin. Maybe the dream is coming true?My thoughtsThis is a sweet story, that tackles Cass’s struggles after the car accident and gradual reintroduction to her life. Moving in with her best friend, getting a summer job, dating again and trying to piece together the parts of her “before” life. There is a definite twist on the love story part, which isn’t the biggest surprise but I was wondering throughout how it would be handled. The concept of facing death and making major changes to what you want out of life is strong in this story.I read an eARC copy courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher.

I liked it
After loving Shipped last year I immediately put Dream On on my wish list, but I got to it quicker than I thought I would after listening to a podcast with the author and learning that it is set in my home state of Ohio. I loved the premise of this book and have never read anything like it before. I will say that I was hooked from the first page and I had to know how Cass knew Devin. Without giving too much away I will say that there is a bit of a love triangle thrown in and while I saw it coming and it's not typically my thing I didn't mind this one. I really enjoyed how the premise came together, I also really enjoyed the relationship between Cass and the one she ended up with. As far as all the things I love most about romance books I will say that there is not much steam (there is a random scene in the epilogue that threw me off a bit), there some pretty funny moments and a lot of sweetness.

Trust your gut, and read this book!
This book took me on a roller coaster. I read most books like I'm a detective and it's my job to figure out how the book ends and what twists it'll take me on before we get there. And there were SO many twists! It's really funny to look back at my annotations throughout the book and see just how wrong some of my guesses were.I want to write a much longer review, but I truly can't bring myself to spoil this book for anyone. Even with all of the appropriate spoiler warnings, I don't want to risk it! This is absolutely a 5 star read, it's fully going on my amnesia list, and I think this should be required reading!

It had potential
Very sweet story line. Cass is in a car accident and wakes convinced she has a boyfriend named Devin. A chance meeting in a flower shop a year later she sees him. Maybe her mind wasn’t playing tricks on her? But then it starts to go sideways. Perry, his brother is very skeptical. Basically calls her a psycho right away. She must be a stalker. Meanwhile Cass has a super stressful internship at a law office. The brother’s dad is crazy and selfish. Her friend Brie, her mom. There is a crazy train of added features. But then could there be something with Perry? Devin was her dream guy but could Perry be it? The relationships never developed much. It had potential to but never did. Just not the satisfying book I hoped for. And I don’t like it where everything wraps up quickly when it dragged for so many unimportant events.

Innovative romance
I really liked this story. Strong and likable female lead, intriguing and attractive male leads, interesting plot, a challenge, a slight mystery and much more in this story. The author didn’t offer up the same tried and true romance tropes but put an intriguing spin on the story. Not to give anything away but the characters were well developed and I was drawn to both of them.Loved the strong yet balanced females and the hero.I’m on to the author’s next book!

Lived it!
I bought this book because I’m a Clevelander and wanted to support her but wow! This is a fun read! I have needed lighter books recently and this is a wonderful story.

Lindo, lindo, lindo!
The media could not be loaded.

easy read
3.5⭐️Loved the concept of this book and the reasoning behind the memories that was realistic (and not sure why I didn’t think of that myself).Although I called the ending in the beginning, it felt quite rushed in the last 50 pages and wished the ending result was shown more throughout the book itself.
