With no reviews or answered questions about the actual TASTE of this product, I did not feel comfortable purchasing more of this, so I opened the single can. Fortunately, and this is obvious if you read the description, but this is 40 total servings split up into 4 separate pouches. So I was able to only disturb a single 10 serving pack to find out.A serving is 1/4 cup dry, and instructions are to use 4 cups water for a whole 10 serving pouch. I had to approximate and used 1 cup water and a bit over 1/2 cup oatmeal mix for roughly 2.5 servings. I was careful to stir the mix to make sure I wasn't getting all Oats and not the powder ingredients too, trying to keep in proportion. Added mix to boiling water, cooked another minute or so while stopping to stir, then ate. Basically just like any instant oatmeal.The bad: It's bland. It's not very sweet at all, and the maple brown sugar flavor is very subtle. It's like you took a packet of major brand Maple Brown Sugar oatmeal and then added a packet of plain. Maybe some people like barely sweetened oatmeal, but I do not. I added a pinch of salt and 2 tablespoons of real maple syrup and then I liked it fine.The good: Texture is fine. It feels like store brand instant oatmeal and the ingredients pretty much read off the same. The flip side of it being bland, is that it IS versatile since you can add dried fruits, spices, whatever to it to dress it up. It's just a bummer that you pretty much have to for it to be decent. It has a 25 year shelf life, with an oxygen absorber in each mylar bag, so it is much more convenient than buying plain Oats and then repacking them for long term storage.At $16 for 40 serving can, and about 2.5 servings make up a decent bowl for breakfast, that is a $1 bowl of oatmeal that I had to have other ingredients on hand to add to it. It's still way more convenient than buying and repacking Oats to make oatmeal from scratch though, so it has an edge over trying to make my own. If you need long term storage food, then buy this, and stock salt and some sweeteners. If you don't need long term storage, then just buy instant oatmeal at the store for half the price.EDIT: I made a second bowl of this and the maple and brown sugar flavor was there. Perhaps I did not mix it well enough the first time. I still added a touch of syrup to sweeten it.

Lasts a long time and will be around when food isnt.
