Does this come with a tutorial for use with a Raspberry pi?

This is basically a bag of sensors. The only documentation is a fuzzy picture chart showing the location of the parts in the container. Sadly the parts are randomly placed and their placements do not match the chart. The chart shows the parts and their corresponding names but that's all. The boards all have part numbers on them like HW 505  but you can't read these numbers on the chart even with a magnifying glass. Their website doesn't even recognize this kit as a product, so no documentation there. Some of the bigger parts can be recognized and matched but about half of them are too small to make out the parts. I agree with the other reviewer who suggested buying the same 37 sensor kit from another company (ELE***) which has comprehensive documentation, examples and help (and is one of my favorite companies for these kind of parts) but is more expensive. Then if you need more sensors buy this cheap kit. I haven't tested any of the sensors but I did notice the pins on some may be reversed between kits. Good Luck!

Does any of the product contain mercury?

Accepted Answer

The tilt switch is a glass capsule that contains inside a drop of mercury. The mercury is inside the glass capsule and it is not in any means in contact with the user. Even though the glass capsule is very resistant care must be take in order to avoid break the glass capsule.

Can these be plugged directly into the gpio header and used on a raspberry pi?

Accepted Answer

Many of these modules require Power and Ground connections that do not conveniently line up with Arduino and Rasp-pi pins.  The signals are compatible with Arduino and rasp-pi but they need jumper wires to be connected correctly to the input and output pins.  That said, they will plug into a breadboard strip for easy connections.
