A long delay
Having read the scanlations for Psyren ages ago, I already know I love this book. The few complaints I have are actually in the translations. Changing (what I consider) the iconic names of things bugs me a little. Switching 'Rise' to 'Enhance', and removing Kyle's trademark move, 'Material High'. It makes me worry if they're going to butcher any of the other psychic ability names further down the road... I guess it really comes down to what you've read first. I really enjoyed the original fan translation (however wonky it might have been), so this version seems a little off. However, the core of the story is still intact, and it is a great read. I look forward to having this whole series in my collection (even if it's more than a year after the series finished running in Japan).

Psyren 6
Science/fantasy with a good blend of action and humor. I also like the undertone of suspense and occasional horror. And while a lot of manga/anime inject large doses of rambling philosophical and cosmological nonsense to justify the story, Psyren, thankfully, has kept that to a minimum. So, over all, a good, fun read. Enjoy!

"Treasure this opportunity to play a supporting role!!"
Psyren takes place a carefully constructed world and its overarching plot continually builds chapter by chapter. Don't start here - it really must be read from the beginning. Ripples of the Drifters' actions begin to spread through Psyren and Ageha struggles with being unable to share important knowledge with those her cares about. But the here and now suddenly become of much greater concern when one of Ageha's "teachers" gets ambushed while trying to track down a group of Psionists stealing from loan sharks. The focus on the present here is a nice change of pace while still keeping tension high and the overarching plot moving. I continue to marvel at the great variety in motivations, powers and personalities of the characters, and it's wonderful to see the kids get a chance to take center stage in this volume. The new antagonists introduced are desperate and creepy, with intriguing possible connections to other story threads. I like the little breather we get here in between Psyren visits without loss of momentum or suspense. Six volumes in and things keep getting more engrossing and compelling.

Upon returning to the present, Ageha and his friends get a bit of time off to recuperate from their trip. While he is relaxing, Kagetora offers Ageha the chance to help him in a job hunting down criminal psionists but Ageha wants to track down W.I.S.E. and save the Elmore Wood kids and so refuses but when Ageha goes to warn Elmore Tenjuin however, he is confronted by Nemesis Q who reveals a little of its motivations. Later Ageha discovers that Kagetora got in over his head and sets out to save his friend. This sixth volume of the Psyren manga is another very good volume with some nice revelations and some interesting action. The volume allows us to get to see some of the contemporary psionists in action as well as allowing us to see what the Elmore Wood children are capable of. The volume's revelations about Nemesis Q's intentions are also interesting. The translation is generally quite good but Fredrika's accent when she gets angry could probably have been handled a bit better. Overall this was another brilliant volume of Psyren and it is definitely worth a full five stars.
