In this taut psychological thriller by Karyn Kusama (Girlfight, Jennifer's Body), the tension is palpable when Will (Logan Marshall-Green, Prometheus) shows up to his ex-wife Eden (Tammy Blanchard, Into the Woods) and new husband David's (Michiel Huisman, "Game of Thrones") dinner party. The pair's tragic past haunts an equally spooky present: Amid Eden's suspicious behavior and her mysterious house guests, Will becomes convinced that his invitation was extended with a hidden agenda. Unfolding over one dark evening in the Hollywood Hills, The Invitation blurs layers of mounting paranoia, mystery, and horror until both Will--and the audience--are unsure what threats are real or imagined.

You should accept this Invitation
I really do not understand the negative reviews for this movie. Perhaps audiences these days are content with jump scares and gore in a horror/suspense film so that they feel they are getting their money's worth. And yet, I admit there was a little hesitancy I had watching this film since a number of reviews written on Amazon described the movie as being too slow. Well, as soon as the credits started rolling, I had come to the conclusion that a.) Amazon reviews are not always to be trusted. And b.) Audiences are very impatient. This film had me wrapped around its finger after the first ten minutes. It does an remarkable job of creating an underlying sense of tension that ratchets up higher and higher till the conclusion. And boy, what a conclusion! And that final scene... The Invitation is simply one of the best movies I've seen of this year.P.S. If you do decide to watch this movie, and I hope you do, AVOID THE TRAILER AT ALL COSTS. Luckily, I caught it after I had watched the movie, since in typical Hollywood fashion, it gives away too much. Go in it with an open mind and be prepared to be amazed.

Were You Invited?
First off, I'm a total Logan Marshall-Green fan, so I most definitely had to see what this film was about. I liked the cast, and the acting was good. Some people might say that the plot was slow, but I think that was beauty of it; it keeps you guessing for a while as to what the deal is and who the "crazy ones" really are. This was refreshing, as I feel it has been a while since I've seen a Suspense Thriller that truly captured me. I consider The Invitation an undiscovered treasure that all Horror fans should get hold of!

A decent but somewhat inexplicable film.
I don't want to spoil things, but the idea that this film exists on Shudder is probably too good an indication as to where it is going. Without anything to go off, I think the film itself isn't too bad, but there are some issues I think that people would logically bring up... yet aren't all films this way?I see reviewers trash the film on the bottom end, and you can bet they eat up ten other films with the same types of logical failures. It's film, it's not reality. And I think this one actually does a pretty good job is conveying some serious awkwardness in friends who have not seen each other for a long time. There are some tense moments, and overall the main 3/4 of the film does a pleasant job doing what it needs to do, which leads to the end section. I'm not sure it had to close that way. It's more of a trope I guess than anything else, which leads me to knock it down a star or so, but I actually liked the relationships on display here, and there probably should have been more put into that, but I knew what I was getting myself into. Direction and score are fairly solid, and as a film it's a solid effort. Not a film I would watch again simply because it's not that watchable. It's awkward, and that might be its greatest strength. The horror roots will overshadow it for some, but I think the journey is worth it for a rental.

Well written and well acted movie
I'm not familiar with any of the actors in this movie but they did a great job of playing their parts. The description given with the movie is all you really need to know.I've seen quite a few 1 star ratings for this movie. I have a few theories as to why these people didn't like it however their reasoning in their reviews aren't accurate at all. I don't think they're being honest with themselves or others. This movie is never really boring. There are no slow parts. Yes, the script takes some moments to familiarize us with the characters but I feel that adds to the quality. And what's great about the characters is they actually socialize in a realistic manner. It's not like they've been handed lines and talk witty to each other trying to play to the crowd so to speak. You know, like the same way a sitcom would where characters try to say funny things for the sake of making an audience laugh. All the writing in this movie catered to realism, character development and story. In the end I do have to give it 4 stars but this is a high 4 star. And to be clear, that's higher than 99% of modern movies would get from me. This felt like a high budget indie film which in turn feels like the type of quality I would like to see from modern Hollywood. Less focus on special effects and cheap thrills and more focus on quality writing/acting and quality directing/producing.

I Invite You To Watch The Invitation
If you like gripping psychological thrillers, this one is for you. The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat. Once I thought I had it all figured out, my predictable notions were wrong, right, wrong and then right. The acting is superb, especially by Logan Marshall-Green as Will. This DVD is very hard to find. I found a copy made in Germany, even though the film is made in America. Then I discovered it is offered on Amazon Prime streaming videos. I was riveted to the screen for the entire 94 minutes wondering what was going to happen. Kudos to Director Karyn Kusama. All 5 stars.

(Keine Spoiler)Ich hatte keine großen Erwartungen an diesen Film.
