Jason Bourne [DVD]

"Jason Bourne:" despite being a bit frayed around the edges, it's still excellent entertainment.
I recently decided to watch all five movies in the Jason Bourne franchise in the order they were released. This week I sat down to enjoy “Jason Bourne,” the last in the series. This film reunites its star, Matt Damon, and Paul Greengrass, the director of two previous Jason Bourne films. “Jason Bourne” includes among its fine starring cast Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Julia Stiles, Vincent Cassel, and Scott Shepherd.Jason Bourne resurfaces ten years after he was last seen jumping from the top of a building into the East River in New York City. He’s still searching for answers to who he is and how he was recruited into the CIA’s “Treadstone” black ops program. Now, with new information given him by former Agency operative Nicky Parsons, Bourne may finally get some answers. He soon finds himself pitted against an array of new enemies within the CIA, including the head of the Cyber Ops Division, an “Asset” with a grudge assigned to find him and kill him, and even the CIA Director himself. Now that I’ve watched all five Jason Bourne films in sequence, it’s become clear to me just how formulaic this franchise has become over fifteen years. Each movie contains the following elements (not necessarily in any particular order): a confused, bemused protagonist on the run from unknown and unseen enemies; someone of senior rank within the CIA obsessively trying to kill him, usually by sending ruthless, robotic “assets” after him; and someone else – always a beautiful woman – within the Agency, or with close ties to it, that tries to help him in some way. There’s also the inevitable (and very well executed) car chase through a major city, and many guns and other hi-tech gadgetry on display throughout each film. Now, I’m not saying that being formulaic is necessarily a bad thing; on the contrary, I think it’s a key to the Jason Bourne franchise’s success. While the plot of “Jason Bourne” does seem a bit frayed around the edges, so is Jason Bourne himself. Here’s a man worn down by fifteen years of being on the run for reasons he doesn’t fully understand. He’s weary, but he’s determined to end this – on his terms. But he may not get the chance…I thoroughly enjoyed “Jason Bourne.” It’s every bit as exciting, tense, and taut as its predecessors. And while it may be a bit predictable in places, it still kept me guessing as to its eventual outcome. Excellent entertainment, highly recommended. (4½ Stars ^ 5)

This movie is awesome! Why all the complaining?
I do not know why people are complaining here and on rottentomatoes.com. This movie is awesome. I'm a girl. I like action. I like Matt Damon. This movie had all that without all the wishy washy foo-foo heartbroken jealous Bourne stuff. I like this as much as I liked Ultimatum, if not more. Please make another Bourne movie.I was able to follow everything and thought it had a great story. The story was really simple...not convoluted at all. More of Bourne trying to figure out what happened to him and the history behind it. Kewl stuff. Liked the integration with modern social media and tech. Definitely to watch twice. Why are people complaining about Damon's performance? I thought he was great. He is older, been living off the grid, has had his heart broken, has wisened up, trusts no one, and is tired of all the BS. He is just trying to live day to day without being killed. Damon plays this excellently. And lots of great action.Through Supremacy, I admit I fast forwarded through a few parts. This movie is fantastic though, fast-paced, and required no fast forwarding. So for all the complainers, the story was simple, Damon did excellent, Tommy Lee Jones did excellent (always love seeing him in films), and there was tons of great action. Movie was modernized, straight, and to the point.

Another great Bourne film with a contemporary twist.
Back in 2002, The Bourne Identity redefined not only the action film aesthetic but the modern spy thriller as well. While some elements of the Bourne films have been good for action films, others are now trite and cliché. If you were to break down the “Bourne formula”, these four elements could be used to make any action film in the “Bourne-style”:Car chases with spectacular driving in “common” vehiclesBrutal hand-to-hand combat using everyday itemsShaky camera movement during action sequences“The chase” where eventually the protagonist gets away, achieves his objective and escapes into the shadows once againBecause the Bourne films are so formulaic, I found Jason Bourne (2016) to be no different. That being said, the film was still a fun and intense ride to watch. Now nine years later from the last in the “true” Bourne storyline (we’ll just forget that The Bourne Legacy (2012) happened), technology has vastly improved, making this film seem more like a crossover of James Bond and Person of Interest. This, I feel, was Jason Bourne’s strength. Casting the incomparable Alicia Vikander (hot in her burgeoning career), was a smart choice and made this film enter the “new era of espionage.”Furthermore, including the subplot focusing on technological privacy pulled straight from our current events helped to pin this film into the collective popular culture in which we now live, instead of just being a series of chases in foreign lands. I also appreciated the inclusion of some semblance of a plot in this film, as it felt like Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) had not gotten very many answers in the last three films. At least this time around we learn something about him and his motivation; since the amnesiac super-soldier archetype can really only go so far.Another great Bourne film with a contemporary twist, I give Jason Bourne 4.0 stars out of 5.

Good price lame film
The DVD itself, the price and delivery were all good. The actual film is mediocre. Not nearly as good as the other 3 Matt Damon 'Bourne' films. There are elements of humour in the other 3 which are missing in this. All the other 3 end on a positive note: Bourne escapes and all looks good. This one has a sour ending. The whole motivation for wishing him dead seems strained and only Nicky gives any excuse. There is no real reason given why she suddenly starts being active, nor where she gets the ability to fight, nor how she is able after some years to hack so easily into the CIA website.

Slightly Disappointing
Okay I will admit it, I'm such a fan of all the Bourne films so I am easily pleased and yes the story-line is not as tight as the first three films but there have been worse sequels. But there are some huge whoppers that can't be ignored in the fact these films are always embracing the modern technology and in the Bonus features of this film that is what the director felt needed to be updated 10 years on, considering the files on Jason Bourne have been dissected and investigated the new information that kick starts the film is not as credible really. (Don't want to cause spoilers for people) I did fully enjoy the fight sequences and the car chases once again which is such a huge part of the Bourne Franchise. So like other reviews have mentioned the film has not fulfilled the normal excellent standard Bourne fans come to expect but it still is enjoyable to watch.

Jason Yawn!!!
Jason Born or Jason Still Living or Jason Yawn I really cannot decide... Please call and let me know. No really!! Another Bourne movie. Did a child with a crayon come up with this story line? Now I am a fan of the books and the movies but this movie had to be pieced together from the many story lines they have never used before. Decent movie, just a little confused and fractured. It is still way way better than the modern versions of that other spy franchise that has been going a number of decades. I know you will say Bourne is not a spy he is an asset! Well I say Potato, Not Potato! If you want to see Matt Damon watch other stuff if you want Bourne watch the first three.

Here we go again.
Why do some directors or studios think that if they add one more movie it will add something to the overall story. This didn't. It was just a continuation of an already finished story. The first three movies were great. Mat Damon was great as the quiet, resourceful hero trying to find who he was and why the CIA was trying to kill him. This (No 4) was just a re-hash of all the situations in the first 3 movies. Don't waste your money. I wish the CIA had succeeded.

This was okay, just . . .
This was okay, just. Could've been better. Also, the almost continuous music through the rear channels got to be really really annoying. Obviously there to engender a sense of dread. What it does is help to spoil the movie. To such an extent that when it does actually stop, for a couple of minutes or so, you're just dreading it starting again. We even had to take a break halfway through. We did finish it though I seriously doubt we'll be viewing it again anytime soon.
