If You Only Read One Review, Read This One!
HERE IS ALMOST EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS TENT!We accompanied our daughter's 4th grade class on her first backpacking trip last week. She was set to share a tent with a friend and the school offered mismatched garage sale tents as their only option - unless they provided their own. I wanted a good 3 person tent that would give them enough room to put their packs inside and sleep comfortably. Most important was the weight - they were only allowed to carry 1/3 of their body weight in their packs. For my daughter this meant a mere 17 lbs and her friend only 20 lbs, so a light tent was a MUST (and needless to say, I didn't want to spend $400 on a backpackers tent)! This tent, split between the two of them was only 2.2 lbs each (I carried the 15 oz footprint). I searched through Amazon for hours reading specs and reviews from real people and I kept coming back to this tent. We needed the tent here within 2 days so having an Amazon Prime membership meant I wouldn't have to pay a huge fee for expedited shipppng. I also bought the footprint that goes with this tent and I was so glad I did... it rained on us throughout our hike into the Los Padres National Forest and the ground was wet and muddy. The bugs were really bad too! This tent was a snap to put up and two ten year old girls did it in minutes. The tarp fit perfectly under each corner pole securing it and ensuring it wouldn't move, even with the girls going in and out of the tent constantly. The directions were simple to follow and had pictures for every step, unlike my extremely expensive Papa Hubba tent which required I go on YouTube to figure out how to secure the rainfly! The rainfly was great, attaching to the tent easily and it even came with a good amount of cord to tie it down and really durable stakes! Again, these stakes were easier to use and held up better than the expensive after market ones I bought from REI!2 doors meant they could get cross ventilation during the day even with the rainfly, since each side rolled up easily and had 2 built in latches to secure it. As we sat in our $450 tent, with doors that were difficult to access with the rainfly in place, I was actually jealous of my daughter's $100 tent that could form a covered entryway by extending the door section of the rainfly out and propping it up with our hiking poles (or sticks would work)! There were handy pockets inside the tent for little things you needed to access easily and a place to hang their solar lantern from the center of the top (you just need a twist tie or carabiner). The zippers never stuck and they were pretty rough on them (since the bugs were terrible, it was a mad dash to open the tent and jump in and zip it up quickly before the critters came in with you). Even with the rainfly doors rolled up, there was a vestibule section on either side for dirty shoes or their entire packs - since 2 other girls who opted to use a school tent went to put it up only to find it was missing a pole and completely useless - so a third girl bunked in this tent the last night and the packs came out. It had plenty of room for 3 girls, their full sized pads and a bunch of stuff. It easily packs back into the little zippered bag (which has tie downs on it to cinch it down even further) and we even fit the footprint into the compact tent bag as well!THE ONLY NEGATIVE WE ENCOUNTERED: My daughter's friend's father was hanging out in the tent with her and he said he couldn't lay down flat unless he laid on a diagonal. He is about 6 feet tall. He loved the tent so much he was considering buying one but it was just a little too short. We are NOT tall people so that doesn't matter to us in the least, but if you are, you might want to consider this one point. The last qualification I'll add is that while we did set it up right after a rain (and there was water between the footprint and the tent which never came through the bottom at all) we didn't use the tent during an active rain storm. I doubt there would have been any problems, but if you're headed out camping in the rain and this concerns you, set it up first and hose it down to make sure.FOR THIS AMOUNT OF MONEY, YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER QUALITY TENT THAN THIS ONE - and even for more money you may still prefer this tent 😉

Excellent tent, terrible storage bag
I own 3 of these, we backpack with them, they are lightweight, easy to set up, we love them! So far we have owned one of them for 2 seasons, the other two for 1 season. Have used them in light rain, frosty mornings and pretty warm temps in the Pacific Northwest (high 80's, low 90's is warm in the PNW). Very, very happy with these tents! They are holding up great and I expect we will use them for at least 6 backpacking seasons for multiple trips each season. They are 3-person tents but we have tall people in our family so we only sleep two per tent... but you know how tiny and compact backpacking tents are. I would not plan on fitting 3 unless they were kids (maybe petite adults). My only complaints are as follows:1. The tent bags these tents come with are terrible - this is why I could not rate them 5 stars. Tent 1 bag lasted through one backpacking trip, tent 2 and 3 bags lasted through 2 backpacking trips. The bags have multiple weak points and I am currently testing out Amazon replacement bags for all 3 tents for a good fit.2. This tent does not come with a footprint and I have had a hard time finding separate footprints that are the same size. I have found some that are close but none that are perfectly sized.

Awesome 1.5 Person Tent!
April 24, 2016 (First use)Wow! Such a neat tent in such a small package.Super simple set up even for my first time pitching a non-freestanding tent.Looks awesome once its all set up.I was very surprised at how much room I had inside from side to side. Height clearance isn't really there though(as expected).I am 5'6, 170 pounds with wide shoulders...I was able to prop myself up on my elbow to do stuff inside the tent but could not sit up. This made rolling up my gear a pain, so I think I will stick with doing all that outside of the tent from now on (if weather permits). But even in this awkward position, I was still able to roll up two sleeping bags (one mummy, one standard) and my sleeping pad all well enough to fit in their stuff sacks.I was also able to keep my large backpacking pack inside the tent with me (at the head), which made my feet barely touch the end.A couple concerns I had were if the rain fly provided any kind of vestibule and if you could use this as a 1.5 person tent (fit a couple inside snugly).First: The rainfly did not really provide any vestibule other than to put my sneakers outside (leaning up against the tent). But I do plan on trying to manipulate how I install it next time to increase the size.Second: TBA... After trying it out by myself, I feel like I could fit my significant other inside with me without being too cramped. Will be testing soon.I spent the night in the mountains of New Mexico around 8,000 feet elevation. Temps got down to 44 F with some occasional wind gusts. The wind did not phase this tent one bit. And when I woke up, there was literally zero condensation inside, which was a great surprise. In the morning, it was very easy to break down and shake out (sand from one of my sleeping bags haha). The door position makes shaking out debris very easy and effective. Folding everything back into its original stuff sack was very easy as well.It was pretty obvious that this tent was made of very good quality materials and I was pretty happy with the purchase.May 3, 2016 (second use)THIS TENT CAN SLEEP TWO PEOPLE!!! Definitely a 1.5 person tent width wise...I took my significant other camping as promised and tested this out with two people... We are both 5'6 and we both workout (so neither are skinny), and not only did we fit, but we fit flat on our backs side by side comfortably and she had no complaints. How awesome is that!?!?We used two mummy bags (one Winterial and one SussieSport), no sleeping pads.I forgot to check the temps the next morning, but we woke up in snow. (2 nights later shows 29F low). And with this set up we were both very warm, comfortable with room, and had no significant condensation to complain about in the morning. The only moisture inside the tent in the morning I suspect was from the snow melting and seeping through the rainfly, BUT none of it came raining down on us as we got up and out of the tent - BIG plus!We did sort of cheat and use my truck to block the wind coming up the mountainside, so I can't comment on wind performance this time.Next up: Sand dunes camping. Will update as necessary!
