Works Great...but requires some strength!
I'm not a "gadget" person- but this is truly a handy thing to have if you want to make healthy home-made baked French fries. It's about the only way to ensure that you will have uniform fries which will cook evenly, so that you don't end up with some burnt and some under-cooked.This sucker works just as advertised, and will handle large, uncut potatoes. Seems sturdy and simple and easy to clean. One caveat: It does require quite a bit of force to get the potato started through the cutting blade. I'm a 190 lb. guy, and I was surprised at the effort it took. I don't see every housewife or senior citizen being able to do this. Using a smaller potato, or cutting them on the larger-size blade would likely be easier, if this is a problem for you. But as long as you're sufficiently strong to operate it, it works great, and is very quick to use and clean, Fries come out looking great- although even with the smaller of the blades, they're still a little larger than I'd like.All-in-all, a well-designed product that does exactly what you'd expect. The suction-base does a great job of holding the cutter in place on your counter. Do note, that you must also use a little force to pull the suction-cup actuator lever back into the position into which it will stay until you release it. (I tend to be gentle with things such as this, so as not to break them- but I learned that this product is not delicate, and was made to be used, and is well-built)Note for making DELICIOUS healthy BAKED fries that come like fast-food fries: Cut you potato(es) and soak the fries in COLD water (with ice cubes) with a tablespoon or so of white vinegar added, for an hour before baking. This trick makes ALL the difference, so that you potatoes come out tasting like real french fries instead of baked potatoes. Use ever so little oil on the fries (or just coat the cookie sheet on which you bake them) and also coat them with some salt, pepper and paprika. Bake on 450 for about 15 minutes. Keep on eye on them....they go from cooked to burnt very quickly!

So very pleased with this!
I was initially turned off from buying this due to the numerous poor - or, at best, middling reviews. So, I bit the bullet and bought one of the pricy metal "commercial" style cutters (LEM Products Commercial French Fry Cutter ).That proved to be a big mistake. It broke the first day and, even when it became functional, it was a major pain to use. Big, bulky and didn't cut all that well to boot. It was returned. But, I still wanted to be able to cut fries. I don't do massive quantities at a time. My usual batch is about 2 to 3 pounds. So I figured I've give the Progressive a try.So happy I did. This works wonderfully on white potatoes. You need to get the technique down - cut a small amount from the end that presses against the cutters so you can maximize the cutting force. Cut the huge potatoes down in size a bit, and push the lever with a quick, continuous motion. It has worked perfectly for me. Plus, the suction base holds the unit much more secure than the suction feet on the commercial-style unit.Granted, if you're looking to cut 10 or 15 pounds at a time you'll exceed the abilities of this little guy. But for smaller batches this will do the job well.I looked at the all-stainless version of this cutter, and decided the plastic version would be a better value. Costs less, plus I assume at the price charged for the deluxe version, the stainless is not primo quality and would eventually rust. No worries about that with the plastic one.I don't expect this will be a tool that will last so long that I can hand it down generation-to-generation, but for the price it's well worth having in the kitchen. Easy to use, saves time, and produces great fries. Highly recommend with one caution: you have to use it right to get the best results.

Nice and big
Years ago I bought a potato cutter at a garage sale. It was all steel and a good size (accepting virtually any potato without cutting it down to size). I've been very happy with it.Recently we bought a cabin so needed to add a second set of kitchen tools. One of the items we decided we wanted was a second potato cutter. I ordered this one because of the "jumbo" in the name hoping that it would work as well as our previous garage sale cutter.Thankfully, this product lives up to the jumbo name. It's larger than our garage sale cutter by 20% or so. It is easy to use and clean up. Not to mention it has a suction cup to attach it to the counter which works surprisingly well.Pros: Large with two sizes of cutting blades; a larger mesh for traditional fries and smaller mesh for McDonald-like fries.Cons: It's plastic and steel which makes me wonder about longevity.All-in-all, I think this was a good purchase.UpdateMy wife loves this vegetable cutter and has asked me to order another! She has used ours at least twice a week since we recieved it in Aug 2005 and has had no difficulties with it at all. I'm surprised to see that another purchaser has had problems with this product. Perhaps they received a defective one? At any rate, I would still recommend the product.

Works Great
Not sure why others had a problem with this potato cutter but it worked great for me. I did not have to warm up the potatoes or cut them in half just put them in and pulled down on the handle and they went right through the blades. Some of the bigger potatoes did take a little more muscle to get through but all in all this worked great.Pros1. Easy to use2. Easy to take apart and clean3. Good price considering how much time this will save you.Con1. Almost to easy and fast to use. The first time I made french fries it took a long time to cut up all the potatoes with a knife into the little strips (we all like thin cut fries) now that I have this cutter I might make them to often and french fries taste great but of course are not great for you.
