It’s the "gold standard" because the acrylic-polyurethane formula acts more like a high-tech "skin"
Nice find! This Vallejo Surface Primer is a heavy-hitter in the model and figurine world. It’s the "gold standard" because the acrylic-polyurethane formula acts more like a high-tech "skin" than a heavy paint, specifically designed to shrink-wrap around 16K resin prints without burying microscopic details. This has been perfect for prepping my vases and figurines, provided you are using the correct delivery system. In my experience, the biggest mistake people make is trying to push this through a fine-detail needle. Because of the thicker polyurethane texture, I've learned you have to use a 0.5mm nozzle to get the flow right. I’ve been pairing it with a high-precision, large-bore nozzle—like the Blackhawk style—which specializes in moving these heavier "industrial" primers. Using this setup in my Vevor airbrush is the key to unlocking what this product can actually do. It allows the formula to atomize properly, laying down flat and smooth without the stuttering or "pebbly" dry-tip that ruins lesser primers. The high surface tension resists dripping and pulls the coat tight as it cures, drying down to a beautiful satin-matte finish that actually makes the fine details pop more than they did on raw resin. You only need two or three light, misty passes to get full opaque coverage. Because it goes on microns-thin, you don't have to worry about it "mudding up" deep carvings. Most importantly, it creates a slightly rubbery "tooth" on the surface that ensures your final art colors actually bond to the resin, giving you a professional, durable base that feels as high-end as the piece you're creating.

Great Primer with Excellent Quality
This stuff really is great. It sprays smoothly and gives solid coverage with excellent adhesion to 3D prints and miniatures. The quality is obvious from the first use. The finish is listed as matte but I would describe it as a very subtle satin instead. It dries to the touch quickly but giving it about 24 hours to fully cure makes a big difference. Once cured it becomes rock hard and extremely durable. I ended up returning it only because I wanted a completely matte finish but it might work out perfectly for you. Ps. In the picture of the left is with the primer and the right is without. I 3D printed this part with PETG filament.

Best primer ever
Vallejo Black Mecha Primer is hands down the best black primer I have used. It is nice and thin, goes on smoothly they an airbrush and can be mixed with thinner for a great consistent application. It’s thin enough to where you can even brush it in and not lose definition in a model. It is a great Vallejo black and will give you great shadows w out having to use a black paint if needed. Best primer ever

Perfect out of the bottle no thinning required
After running into problems with other colors of primer I was a hit hesitant to try this one but decided to give it a go as I do like the Vallejo paint. Once I loaded this up into the airbrush I was pleasantly surprised to see the paint Flow easily with no problem and no clogging at all during my session. I was able to cover a particularly large piece and the coverage was great, it adheres perfectly to plastic. Best thing was I didn't need to add anything to it so it was a really easy process. Additionally I was able to use a brush with the primer (wanted to test it out) and still worked out fine. Would definitely recommend!

Pretty decent primer.
This primer works fantastic in the drybrush right out of the bottle, it very easily sprays on a nice coat that's not too thick or thin and dries fast (but not too fast). The primer seems to have a decent amount of "tooth" to it and paint sticks to it pretty good. It forms an extremely durable layer that is very difficult to stretch or tear once fully cured. My only issue is that I repeatedly noticed that after I had primed a piece and let it dry to the touch, I would set it down to cure and then the next morning I would find a few places here and there where the primer had flaked off. I'm always careful to make sure that the pieces are clean and dry before priming so I'm not too sure what the issue could be. Regardless, it's easily touched up again.

Great coverage and adhesion to plastic
I received an airbrush kit for Xmas. Vallejo primers work great with it. After tweaking the psi, and trial and error, I was able to prime a dozen miniatures with ease in 30 minutes. Although the bottle states it’s airbrush ready, I did find that cutting the primer 50/50 with Vallejo airbrush thinner works much better than straight primer alone. No tip dry with the 50/50 mix, whereas I had to clean the needle repeatedly with the straight primer. It’s a good idea to grab thinner if you’re going to use this with an airbrush. Even though it’s designed for airbrushes, the primer can also be brushed on if you don’t have one. Either way it beats using rattle cans to prime and varnish. I will be buying the white and grey primers, and a matte varnish from Vallejo as well.

Fantastic product
I used regular vallejo black paint to prime for years before trying actual primer and the difference is night and day. Goes on a bit rough looking but dont get discouraged. Once it dries it looks absolutely flawless. Allow it to cure until the sweet chemical smell has gassed off fully (around 12-20 hours) for very best result.

Buon primer - Nero
Assolutametne consigliato.
