Secrets can kill!
It's been ten years since Ben Harper's mother allegedly threw herself in front of a train in their village, Haddeley, and twenty since Ben's older brother, Nick, and his friend, Simon Woakes, were murdered by two schoolgirls. When Ben's boss, Madeline, insists that he write about his mother on her death anniversary, Ben refuses. But when he learns that one of girls who murdered his brother and Woakes has in turn been killed in a similar manner, although she was living under a new name, he is determined to discover the truth. His quest soon leads to the uncovering of several secrets.

Amazing Read
This was my first time reading Robert Good and he has fast become a regular author on my list now and I can't wait to read his next book.He writes the thriller\crime fiction really well. The characters had real depth and you connected to each one. It's written so well there is no guessing the truth early and you're really taken along for the journey!Gold doesn't shy away from the darkness that is in everyday life and it's raw and gritty.Recommend.

Lettura piacevole e coinvolgente
Abbastanza semplice da leggere in lingua originale. Trama fitta, intricata e accattivante. Finale anche tranne che per l'ultima azione. Nel complesso una bella lettura

A bit of Gold, not only in name
In Twelve Secrets, Robert Gold brings 12 different perspectives together. He does that by employing different styles in the different viewpoints. Some of them might feel slow, sometimes even sluggish. But these should simply be regarded as the slow movements of a musical piece. They don't diminish the value of the book as a whole, and Twelve Secrets is certainly a bit of fresh air in the crime landscape. Oh, and Ben Harper is an absolutely lovable chap. I can't wait to meet him in the next installment.

Page-turner and shocking

potential wasted to chase cheap shock value
This book is a decent commute read - the chapters are very short, so there's always a good place to stop. But I didn't particularly enjoy my read. I disliked the main narrator, Ben, especially for how he treated the character Dani Cash (she didn't even get an apology from him...). Most other perspective characters were decently placed to offer varied insight on the unfolding narrative. This book would have gotten three stars from me, if not for a) the out of nowhere intimate assault of a character on page, for what felt like nothing but shock value; and b) the ending - not the reveal, that was okay, but the stabbing of a certain character, which, once again, served nothing but to attempt to make the ending feel more scandalous and 'shocking'. I was underwhelmed by a story which had spend pages upon pages building up characters, only to go for theatrical overacting at the end.
