NOT a Large Print Cookbook
In my search on Amazon for Large Print cookbooks, I saw this: "1,000 Indian Recipes (1,000 Recipes) by Neelam Batra (Oct 10, 2002) - Large Print"and I ordered it.However, the book I received has tiny print. Even with my magnifying glass, viewing the print is hard on my eyes.I would not be able to cook from it, unless I photocopy an enlargement of the page.Certainly I would not be able to cook directly from the book by putting it on a book-stand.Nevertheless, I did look at the book with my magnifying glass. The recipes are comprehensive and well described, and the instructions are clear. The recipes look delicious, and altogether they encompass a broad spectrum of dishes. As a cookbook I rate it as Excellent. I'm fond of India cuisine, and wish I could cook from this book.So I recommend the book to others, and encourage others to buy it.But if someone (like myself) needs a Large Print book, do not buy this book. Despite the description on Amazon that it is a Large Print book, in fact the font size is tiny (not just "regular").I don't consider this the seller's "fault," as the book's "Large Print" description on Amazon shows a list of sellers.I'm sure that my experience of receiving this book with tiny print would be the same with any other seller. It is the description by Amazon of this book that is at "fault," in my opinion.I haven't yet decided whether to return the book or to give it to someone.Yet, as a cookbook, I consider this book Excellent. My Lesson Learned: Unless a book listed on Amazon has "Large Print" in the title or the publisher indicates that it is Large Print, do not depend upon the Amazon "Large Print" designation to be accurate.

THE Book to Get for Indian Recipes
This is definitely the book to get for classic Indian recipes. I bought several others first which I just didn't care for and ended up giving them away. I am vegetarian and do not eat dairy, gluten, corn or soy. I don't want weird substitute protein either. Other cookbooks were very limited. This book has enough recipes for everyone to find a good selection they like. I've made several so far and they're very tasty and satisfying. There aren't any photos but the quantity of good recipes makes up for that. This is probably the only Indian cookbook I'll need.

AN INDIAN COOKING JOURNEY-BEST EVER!
Best book ever! I am so happy that I choose it to be part of my indian cooking journey. There are no pictures, but so many recepies, 689 pages full of informations makes you fell like you are in a cooking journey all around India. Very good explained, the name of food is also in hindi so you can easily search on Google if you want pictures! I am from Romania so it took around 10 days to receive them.I will for sure recomended to my friends and why not make a new order for a Christams gift!

Healthy Indian
I love this cookbook and am working my way through it, trying to make at least one new recipe a week. Although I am not Indian, an Indian friend of mine vouches for the authentic "taste" of the recipes. These aren't classic recipes, but more up to date for today's tastes and health awareness. The dishes incorporate the myriad spices that make Indian cuisine distinct, but are not loaded with ghee and other oil, although even so, I tend to cut the amount of oil suggested and just ignore the ghee. Although I have other Indian cookbooks, I use this as my bible for technique including spice preparation. I also like that she has some admittedly Americanized dishes so there is truly something for every palate.

Very detailed, wish it had a few pictures
My fiancé is Indian and I have always wanted to learn some of the traditional recipes. This recipe book has everything under the sun. I like that it menu ideas detailing what items are good together and it also explains a lot of the seasonings and uses. It also has the traditional names for the items. The only let down with this is that there are no pictures. I like to be able to see what it should look like so I know if I have messed it up.

it's ok, but not authentic
i don't know why everyone is praising this book so much. i gave it 3 stars because she has a lot of recipes, but i am so annoyed with this book, there is nothing and i mean nothing authentic in this book. i showed some of the goan recipes to my mom and she said that there are some ingredients that are almost never used in goa. where does this author come off of thinking she can use her favorite ingredients in dishes and pass it off as if it has been like that always? her recipes use way too much oil and fenugreek for everything. the fenugreek can be annoying. she doesn't even spell paratha properly, she spells it as parantha...where on earth did the 'N' come from?? i know that indians have different ways of pronouncing some dishes but this is a book that she is trying to sell nationally so she should stick with the tradition. some dishes are good, others not so. but none of it is original, she needs to change the name to american indian recipes or at least MY american indian recipes.all in all, indian cooking is not that hard and there's no need to write up 1000 recipes for it. for the most part all you have is a base sauce (in indian cooking it would be curry) and adapt from there. seriously neelam batra can be annoying a lot of the times b/c she just goes and makes up recipe names, ingredients and recipes. it's great to experiment, but i'd like to tell her that she should have at least one original authentic recipe. i would not buy this for my indian friends.

Very comprehensive and comprehensible
Great book. I have only tried 5 recipes, but they all turned out good. The book is written for people with little to no experience with Indian cooking and spices. Everything is in English, and most things are explained. My only two problems with it:1. You need a steam cooker for certain recipes (I was hoping to avoid buying one)2. Sometimes there's no description of what the final product should look like (no pictures either).Otherwise, very good.

Couldn't fault it
Well written and easy to understand but a bit pricey at almost £20. every recipe I tried was given the thumbs up by my family. All the ingredients and methods were clearly explained, All in all a very good book. bring the price down and it gets 5 stars!
