Review: Good for making small batches of fermented veggies - I've recently gotten interested in making lactofermented vegetables, after reading Michael Pollan's book " Cooked" , and Sandor Katz's book " Wild Fermentation", since there are many health benefits. I have a Harsch fermentation crock for making big batches of pickles, but wanted to be able to try making smaller batches of various vegetables, and this looked like an inexpensive way to have a number of smaller batches of various veggies fermenting at once. The beauty of this system is that the lid fits standard wide-mouth canning jars ( Ball or Kerr brands). That means that you can use any size of canning jar with the airlock, as long as the jar is wide-mouth. I purchased the value-pack, which has 2 set-ups- each consisting of an airlock, a large gaskets, a small O ring, and a small overflow cup (that you float in the brine to stop bubbling brine from going up into the airlock). It was easy to put the pieces together. With lactofermentation, it's important to keep air out, and I like the way the gasket ,O ring and the airlock all ensure that you have a good seal. I used half-gallon canning jars, but you can use any size of wide-mouth jars, which allows you to easily and inexpensively adjust for the amount of vegetables you are fermenting. My first batches worked very well with this system. Since you are using clear glass canning jars, you can see what is going on in the jars full of colorful veggies & it's fun to watch the occasional bubbles go through the airlock. For storage of the pickled vegetables, you just switch to a regular canning jar lid, and put them in the refrigerator. Review: Definitely Recommend this Kit - I purchased this kit to try fermenting in smaller batches rather than using my enormous German crock. These are perfect and very easy to use! Plus the little booklets that accompany the kit have wonderful recipes and detailed instructions. I would definitely recommend this kit. In the future I will probably just have my spouse make me some lids that are similar so I can do more than 2 jars at a time.

Works well and little over priced
This product works well. It is a good product for beginners. I suggest reviewing the basics on the internet and reading the process for making sauerkraut in the booklet included. I live in southern AZ, so I take the temperature recommendations with a grain of salt. (LOL) Actually, this is cooking take everything with a grain of salt. There are similar products you can buy or make your own but this is a good starting point. Have fun!

No better results than I had with my own jars
I bought these because I was worried about when I made anything with dill in it, the dill always floats and is exposed to air. However, I never had any problems with mold before using these, and only have experienced mold when using this product. Overall, these are okay and I do use them when I run out of the little jars I use that fit into the wide-mouth quart-size jars. They are easy to use although the first time I felt a little intimidated, but once you put one or two together, you're good. They also require more accuracy in filling my jars than my jar-in-jar method too. And with all these extra pieces for the Perfect Pickler, it's not quite worth it to me.

wrong order
I got the wrong size for this, I wanted the 2-pack. Now cannot find papers to get the right one I wanted.

WONDERFUL!!!!!
As you can see I love this item! I made perfect pickles the first time ever in 4 days. Seriously! They were delicious! There is a video that's very helpful on their website but the booklets that are included in the set are very simple & easy to follow. I will be ordering more sets to make sauerkraut and kim chi. I thought I would have to buy a large crock but this is just perfect for keeping a few jars in the fridge. If you're into raw fermentation to add more probiotics in your life this is the solution.

Great for cabbage
I saw this item at The Seed Gathering Show in Santa Rosa and learned about fermenting foods. This is a great way to pickle many kinds of foods without vinegar or canning. Easy to use with good instructions.
