No more greasy fingers
It works as it should. No more holding a slippery paper wrapped stick of butter. I use it mainly to butter the bottom of pans before cooking. It will get the bottom but not once you try to go up on the sides it’s a no go. Not a big deal for me but I’m sure if I pushed the stick a little further it might work. Btw, this is only for half sticks of butter. I didn’t see it when I purchased this but it’s actually what I prefer.

Love it!
Butters corn on the cob without a mess! I put in 4 or 8 ounce sticks.

has potential as dispenser for cooks
I wanted a butter dispenser that would let me take it out of the fridge, open it, slice off a small bit of butter into a saute pan, close it, and pop it back into the fridge - in just a few seconds. This will let you do that, except that you need to modify it and the stick of butter. The body of this thing is 39.5 x 39.5 mm inside and 76 mm long. A "western" sized stick of butter will slide inside, but leaves about 1/8" sticking out. You actually have to chop 18 mm off the butter to have room for the plunger to fit in behind the butter. Next, you have to file open the other end so you can push the stick of cold butter through it. It was made to spread butter on a hot ear of corn, so the opening is too small for cold dispensing. If you're handy with a coarse-cut file you can fix that in a few minutes. Maybe the manufacturer will have an idea and start making a longer version with an opening that works for cooks. The best thing about this item is that the square cap fits perfectly to prevent the butter from drying.

I ended up buying 5 more for my kids.
I bought this because I was tired of tearing my bread or wasting so much butter (ie. on my grilled cheese). I could't wait to try it, I used a margarine that I knew was softer than my butter, filled it with 1/2 stick let it set out for about 5 minutes, then tried it. To my surprise it didn't tear the bread which was extremely soft. I didn't put much pressure on the spreader, just glided across the bread a few times. The sandwich fried up nice and even. I placed the spreader in the butter door of my refrigerator. The next sandwich I made I just took it out of refrigerator and used directly. Worked fine. I have not used butter so I don't know how that will work with out letting it set out a while. Nor have I cleaned it after having the margarine in it. This is one gadget I will use and not put in the draw.

100% Trash
This item was designed with zero thought to the butter that is supposed to go into it. Simply, it just won't fit! I keep my fridge at a standard 40 degrees Fahrenheit and cannot slide the plunger through the opening that is too small to fit a basic stick of butter. The stick of butter is perfectly square, measuring 1 ¼", but the opening of the butter dispenser is rectangular, measuring only 1 1/16" on the narrower end, requiring you to push hard to get the cold butter to get through the opening and leaving scrapings on the inside of the tube. Honestly, I have no idea how it received any positive reviews. It would've been so simple to make this the proper size. The other design flaw is the very short post to grab the pusher. It is so short you can barely reach it as it works its way down into the tube. 100% trash!

Adequate, but there might be some with a better design for pushing the butter down.
I like the concept of the butter spreader but....the outside gets greasy and when the butter is cold, pushing the plunger down is hard. It already chipped and broke a corner off, so I threw it away. It did wash up well in the dishwasher

Corn on cob essential
Exactly as pictured. I had another one and after 15+ years , the cap had gotten lost and it started to develop a little crack. So obviously very durable and gets the job done Absolutely perfect for buttering corn; so easy even kids can do

No more melted, gross butter dish!
My husband has a habit of rolling his corn on the cob on the top of the stick of butter, melting it, and getting it all clogged up with corn silk—yech! I kept having to throw it away because it was so gross no one else wanted to eat it. So I bought him one of these, and the problem is solved—he gets a way to butter his corn, and the rest of us don’t have to pick silk out of the butter. We keep it in the butter drawer in the fridge. I didn’t have any difficulty fitting a normal size stick of butter in this spreader—just cut it in half. Sturdy enough to stay in one piece when dropped on the floor, and just throw it in the dishwasher when you need to clean it. I’m very satisfied with this purchase.
