Can this guy write or what? Perfection. A legend in the making. For any fan of true underground American crime fiction. No cliched turgid overwrought tales of a troubled cop hunting a serial killer here. Head and shoulders above the mainstream dross you find in Tesco. For fans of Block, Leonard, Burke and Crumley. His writing punches you in the gut and then takes your wallet, but throws it back in your face after taking your last ten dollars sticking a pin through your Eurex. I can’t recommend this guy highly enough. Check out his full length debut, A Lesson In Violence, too. Think this cat has great music taste as well to top it all off.

These stories have me reeling. Thank you, Jordan Harper.I haven't read anything this well written for ages. Or rather in almost forty years I don't know if I've ever read anything better written. Seriously, the level of craft in these stories is stupendously good – something any serious reader will more than appreciate, and a master class for any writer.I'm tipping Harper for great things. He just needs to take it easy, relax, and keep going like this.

Jordan Harper turns phrases and evokes emotions that linger. Buy this book. Buy all his books. Your brain will applaud your good taste in words.

Harper is a great wordsmith who can turn a phrase and keep you wanting more. Several of these short stories made me want them to be a novel and keep going.His novel, She Rides Shotgun, is a crime novel with a twist for the main character.I am looking forward to his next novel.

Really impressive debut story collection from a true talent. Jordan nails disparate voices, picking up on the distinct rhythms of solemn Ozarks methheads, jaded Hollywood fixers, and Brooklyn gang-bangers alike. The stories are tight and compact, and the prose is unpretentious and swift. I have a hard time seeing how you could get bored with this one. Highly recommended.
