Q: will this meet safety requirements? Won't the cords be more likely to be damaged?

This works great for use were people will be walking. I wouldn't use it if heavy equipment was going to be rolled over it.

Q: how wide is the hook (velcro) strips on the cover? Looking to buy loop tape with 3m backing to match for hard surface mounting.

Its approximately 1" Velcro tape.

Q: Will it work on berber carpeting?

Berber carpet is a loop style carpet, so yes it will work.

Q: Can these be used on hardwood floors?

No, the velcro needs a surface to attach to. Works on loop carpet, commercial grade rugs, and Berber carpet. SafCord will not work with cut pile carpet, tile, wood, etc, unless it has the loop tape attached to the floor.
