This tool is a beast! Heavy, but for a battery tool has all the power of an all electric drill. I love it.

Great tool for the job! Batteries are way too overpriced though but the knock off batteries are great for a great price.

This tool is big, heavy, and loaded with power. I have the 20v cordless flexvolt also. The 20v goes thru joist like butter, but due to the safety e-lock system, bit got stuck on me on numerous occasions. Had to chisel the bit out. Bought this as a backup for that reason. Release bit from quick chuck, then screw this beast to bit, and proceed. This tool is too heavy to use continuously for overhead joist drilling. Its 23lbs with the battery. This has no problem going through 100 yr old tripled joist beams

I have owned the first generation dewalt flexvolt Stud & Joist drill for the past three years which is one of the best tool purchases i have ever made. When i saw this new second generation inline flexvolt model drill i decided to give it a go. I work in the electrical field so i admit that this drill is way overkill for running romex cable through studs. The reason i own two models of the dewalt flexvolt Stud and joist drills is because of the wonderful anti- binding protection which lets me work comfortably without ever worrying about getting hurt on the jobsite. It might be weird but whenever the drill turns off on me to avoid a bind and the red light starts blinking i always think "thank you." This drill simply screams durability and power. The housing is extra thick and the power of a corded tool is genuenly there. I have yet to find myself in a situation where my Bosch nailkiller bit becomes jamed even after drilling through 2x6 weight bearing joists in the first gear of this drill. Whenever a bit gets jamed from using my dewalt DCD996 this flexvolt drill always comes to the rescue. I highly recommend this drill if your job requires power, your are tired of getting hurt and you are tired of dealing with extension cords.
