Probably NOT the ‘Ultimate’ collectors edition but still pretty awesome!
Ok so let’s get this out the way first… this set does NOT include all the behind the scenes and appendices of earlier editions. What it does include is some not yet seen BTS extras. However, I bought this for the 4K remaster which is outstanding. It’s the best version of the saga IMO. It really does tie the two trilogies together into one. The sound is incredible too. Now the box art is beautiful and there are a number of ways to display it. I have chosen to display all of the art and set it on a book display stand. You can go understated with just black and dark speech text which is on the reverse or fold it in such a way as to display what you want. The disc art is plain and the extra stuff you get is mostly filler. I would rather have had just the 4K version and had all the appendices included again here instead of having the Blu-ray version included. Who’s buying this edition and then watching it in Blu-ray? Yes, it’s probably cheaper, just about, to buy the standalone 4K editions but this set keeps it all together and in a nice display. The extra price was worth it for the beautiful box art and unique design of the multi-display case. I love it.

A must for Tolkien film fans the extended additions give you more of the stories that was missing in the theatrical releases all in all a good watch

Very Nice Set
Okay, it doesn't contain the appendices, which is annoying, but I already own copies of them so that isn't a dealbreaker for me. Each film is contained within its own amaray case, four discs for each Hobbit film, six discs for each LOTR film, all with individual slipcases. All four audio commentaries are present on the extended 1080p discs for LOTR, which again I already had, but at least they're with the remastered transfers now. The 4k transfers look incredible, the Dolby Vision HDR makes the image really pop, adding depth to darker areas, highlights, and everything in between. I do feel the set maybe should have been a touch cheaper given the omission of the appendices (the LOTR ones could easily fit on a single UHD disc in their SD resolution, and the Hobbit ones would only need a few two or three discs, so it is a shame), but the art book, art cards, bonus disc and One Ring replica are very nice additions. The box itself is very smart too, and well packaged, as it comes in an outer box to protect it during transit. I look forwards to rewatching the movies again soon.
