Momentum: Pursuing God's Blessings Through the Beatitudes

We have just started with this book and it’s so helpful and informative.

I like the helpful hopeful clarity of Smith's writing style. Have been reading chapters after my usual Bible reading and devotional time for weeks. Have actually been going VERY slow through this and backing up to go through some of it multiple times so it becomes a part of the fabric of my life instead of just something that I read through, agree with, but forget in an hour. He makes much of God's grace and our inability to save ourselves. It's a good true starting place - painful to see sometimes when you think you've got it all together, but that dose of reality hedges us/me onto the "narrow path that leads to salvation."Anyway, a friend recommended this book and although I wasn't really thrilled at first, thinking that it was going to be a dry, un-relateable book [I think, because of the cover design], I'm happy to report that I've not found any of those preconceived ideas to be true. I'm very glad to have purchased it and highly recommend this book to new Christians and older Christians alike.Many of the statements Smith makes about the church at large has surprised me because he's able to verbalize things I've been feeling about how churches seem to offer bits and pieces but not the whole package. Having grown up in the church, and now working at one, I struggle sometimes when I see how things work behind the scenes. I know churches are full of imperfect people who have their own foibles and hypocrisies and it hurts sometimes to admit that I'm right there in the midst of them, but this book helps to put a pin in my fat head when I need it and encourages me along the way when I need that. It's helping to fill in some of the holes I have in my understanding of what the "Be Attitudes" are all about.... I could go on, but let me just say again - highly recommend this book.

A friend started reading this while we were completing a Beatitudes study. They kept referencing sections where she was finding so much truth and application. Although I am not much of a reader, I decided to order. Wow! I can’t say enough about this book. It has been an eye opener for me. Just started the third beatitude and it has already made an impact on my life. It is a book that I will read again because there is so much to gain. The author provides great examples of the message from the sermon on the mount! Thank goodness God only turns a flashlight on in my basement!

This is a POWERFUL discussion of the beatitudes, and the author's clear presentation of the importance of sequencing these "rings" for victory as a Christ follower is one of the Best teachings of this important message from Jesus that I have seen. We all struggle to have victory over sin but Jesus gave us the key, which is unlocked here so clearly.I like the back cover, it speaks to the essence of our challenge: "Why is change so hard? Don't you wish you could snap your fingers and be spiritually mature? ...change is hard, it's true, but we often make it harder than it has to be. Momentum offers a better way forward, revealing how the Beatitudes...hold the secret to change that gets easier with time."Well said. So well done! Thank you Colin S. smith for this incredible book.

Great book on the Beattitudes. The book is way better than the DVD series but the DVD is great for those who don't want to read each chapter.

Our small enjoyed and grew through this study! Even us grizzled old followers saw with.fresh.eyes. Growth through the beatitudes caused to.call in love with Jesus again!

One of the best books I have read in quite some time. Took teaching that I never understood or payed much attention to and transformed it into practical life changing steps in my Christian life. That sounds grandiose, but it is true. The book if full of highlightable statements and questions, as well as practical advice on how to return to the basis of our proper relationship with God through Christ. Highly recommend, and am suggesting to my small group that we read it together.
