Get your highlighter ready! Lots of valuable info!
This book is packed with good information and reads easy. He does not try and sell anything. Just honest, down to earth good advice from a very experienced guide. I high-lighted and took plenty of notes and can't wait to do my climb in October!

Great guide and book!
We actually hiked with Erick and bought this book after our hike as it had not been puplished yet. It's funny and amazing to see him again in his writing. The book is great! The help and info given is from an actual Kilimanjaro guide so much more reassuring. Also, having experienced it all first hand, if you are planning on hiking Kilimanjaro, you need to read this book. The advice is solid and also gives you a small window into the mind and lives of those living in Tanzania. I would have benefited greatly if I had read it prior to our hike. I didn't have the opportunity but you do. Read it, it's worth your time. J & B

Great advice, with a bunch of humor and charm :-)
Bought this book to prep for my trip to Kilimanjaro in June, and enjoyed it so much that I just bought 3 copies to give to folks in the group I'm traveling with. Erick provides insight into what each day on the route will bring, what you should consider, dos and don'ts, and a peek into the lives of Tanzanians. I'm feeling so much better prepared having read this, and am even going to incorporate some of his advice into my pre-trip prep. On top of all the practical knowledge shared, Erick is funny and charming, and reading this book was just a real treat! My husband and I hope to run into him during our trip! Buy this book!

Good information!
Good Read. I appreciate the context around local culture and awareness of some traps that are out there for unaware travelers.Look forward to applying on our trip next year!

Great Read Unique Perspective
I really enjoyed this book. I have not been to Africa, but this book really got me to thinking more about Kilimanjaro. Far from being just an excellent book about the mountain, it is a remarkable story about East Africa and country of Tanzania. Anyone could read and enjoy this book. Erick’s own journey is a really fun and amazing story, in and of itself! I would highly recommend this book to anyone as it is very well written

Most comprehensive book to read when visiting Tanzania and climbing Kilimanjaro.
Chapters overs native culture , visiting towns and villages (hire a private guide that speaks Swahili) to understand the customs and culture. Erick is a native born resident as well as a certified climbing guide with over 500 climbs of the mountain. The chapters and diagrams describing climbing routes and preparation are detailed and excellent. I have climbed most of the Cascade volcanoes with the Seattle Mountaineers and Mt Rainier (14,411 feet) with Rainier Mountaineering Inc. Book your own private safari after your climb.Diane Thompson (now living in Boise Idaho)

Outstanding
This book is a must read for anyone going to Tanzania for Kilimanjaro or safari. Erick’s personal touch speaks from the heart and it is obvious how proud he is of his country. He gets you prepared for your trip and gives a personal perspective . I am going to Tanzania in February and maybe I will meet him!
