Wonderfully woven tale
Ava Richardson has woven a wonderful tale of hate, betrayal, and hope. "Dragons of Wild" begins in an explosion of betrayal and actions. Hacon Maddox had come to Torvald with a gift of the Iron Guard for the king. In truth, he was setting a plot in motion to overthrown the Dragon King and crown himself king. When he orders everyone, including the queen and her children, executed, his brother defies him in saving one child. Thus begins the story of Bower of House Daris and Saffron, raised by dragons.I was captivated by the story and Ms Richardson's style from the very beginning. The story is told from the viewpoints of both Bower and Saffron. Ms Richardson accomplished something that I have not seen before. The narration flows smoothly from one character to the other, AND there is a difference in the way each character tells their part. In the past, every author I have read makes each character sound exactly like the other. Kudos Ava Richardson. There are a few minor editoral issues, but not enough to distract from an exciting and wonderful tale. You should add this book to your library!

Hooked
Well, I'm hooked... again!! I just love the stories about Torvald and the connections that new generations make to the Torvold of old with the Dragon Academy! I enjoy how Ava writes from different characters perspectives in her books. Sometimes I get a little confused as to whom is speaking. But that was not as noticeable in this story! Looking forward to the next book!

Great Read
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the series. I am looking forward to reading further adventures of Bowen as king. Unlike his prior usurper hopefully Owen will graciously accept his role as king and learn to control his magic.

one more time for the King
At times the story drags, but overall it looks like she has another hit series on hands, or should I say "in" her hands I enjoyed meeting new characters and the start of this one , as others, gives you many to keep up with. Some of the "not to sure" if they are good or bad for the lead character are good for intrigue. As we all do. we try to determine if they are good or bad for the chief character. After we find out we say to ourselves, I told you so, or I'll be D-----. Either way it is fun to read.

Good idea, but no follow through!
So I loved the idea of this book. Dragon riders and magic, there was so much potential here. Problem is the book as a whole was too slow for me. Either that or make the book longer would have been better. All the good stuff doesn't happen till the end of the book which leads to the next book. I had a hard time getting through this book. Not for everyone, mostly for the younger crowd.

I loved this book by Ava Richardson. Great characters, interesting story line. Story of oppressed society, great evil, destroying of books. Old knowledge lost.

Read this to the end
The book starts slow but picks up the pace soon. I think the rest of the series will go on beautifully. Ava Richardson has written more Dragon books that you will love as well

Building a relationship with dragons for the good of mankind.
Vance Maddox has been instructed, by his brother, Prince Hacon Maddox, to assassinate the King and Queen of Torvald and their baby daughter. When he reaches their chambers, he finds that they have already been murdered. However, their baby daughter is still alive and he knows that he is incapable of carrying out the order. Instead, he tells the servant looking after the child to run and not stop running, until this little girl is delivered to safety. When his brother discovers that he has allowed the baby to escape, he immediately strips him of his titles.Zanema, the matriarch dragon is given the task of raising Saffron and has lived in the dragon’s den since Vance Maddox saved her when she was a baby. Her companion and closest friend is Jaydra, a blue green sea dragon. After a chance meeting between Saffron and Bower of House Daris, a member of one the noble houses left is Torvald, they combine their energies to change the poisonous situation that has taken over Torvald. Unfortunately, it’s going to prove to be a very difficult task.I loved the plot and the fact that Saffron was sent to live with dragons and thanks to Zanema, learnt how to use her magic powers. The close friendship she has with Jaydra was equally well portrayed and then her chance meeting with Bower, and their quest to heal Torvald and re-build the town’s connection with dragons made me realise just how much effort and imagination Ava Richardson has put into this book. I would happily give the plot 5/5 stars. However, whoever edited this book has failed miserably! The spelling errors that are littered across the pages were more than unfortunate. It appeared to me as if the book had been written using predictive text rather than spellcheck. Such a shame because this has cost this beautiful novel 2 stars!TreebeardBreakaway Reviewers received a copy of the book to review.

A fun, entertaining and quick read
I enjoyed The Return of the Darkening by Ava Richardson so thought I’d continue reading her work. The books are easy reads; full of magic, dragons and the fight between good and evil.I read Dragons of the Wild quickly: it’s an entertaining and enjoyable escape for a few hours if nothing else.Set generations after the previous series, we’re introduced to a Torvald where dragons are nothing more than myths told to frighten children. Speaking of them in other ways – even acknowledging they existed – is punishable by death.Into this setting enters our hero, bookworm and dreamer, Bower. It’s impossible not to like Bower. He’s clumsy, hopeless and in over his head. But his heart is pure and he alone realises something is not so benevolent about his king. Forced to flee, he leaves behind his beloved books and sets out on an adventure. It’s not as magnificent as he hopes it will be.Saffron has magic: a powerful gift that she cannot control. She leaves her home and family – the dragons – to find out who she is, accompanied by the ever-faithful Jaydra, the dragon she considers a den-sister.A chance encounter in the woods brings these two together. They have no idea why they stay together: Bower refuses to go to the one place Saffron needs to get to and Saffron will not be held up by an idiot with no idea how to survive.Fate, however, has other ideas. The dual narration means the reader witnesses the unfolding friendship from both sides. Saffron feels guilty about leaving Bower as she knows he won’t survive. Bower pledges to help her, even if it means confronting his fears. They have disagreements, they don’t understand each other, but when their friendship is put to the ultimate test, they both prove their loyalty.I struggled to age the characters for most of the book, which made it hard to relate to them at times. Saffron is also amazingly cultured for someone raised by dragons – the things she didn’t know felt like they were added in to move the plot forward or the excuse for some exposition. An old hermit living on the island who teaches her to read and write felt just a touch too convenient to me.I also felt the pacing was really slow. Not a lot actually happens for the majority of this book: they traipse around the woods, return to a city and meet a king. Of course, there is magic, dragons and some revelations thrown in, but I kept waiting for something more, something to define them earlier on.This isn’t a complicated novel. It helped pass some train journeys and I did find myself swept up as it progressed, so that’s good enough for me. Given the slow pacing of this book though, I am intrigued as to whether it was just the set-up for the next books and they will pick up in terms of plot and tension.I’ll keep reading to find out!
