Savannah 2" Roughing Gouge

This roughing gouge works great so far. I have turned alot of rough stuff into round cylinders, for future use. Came sharp, and have not had to sharpen yet. Well worth the money.

Less meaty guys need meatier lathe tools for stability and tool control. This thing sharpens easily without scorching or blueing and keeps a durable edge for a long time. Tthe huge arc lets you roll in the cutting direction without catching. Hogs wood quickly and if used carefully will rival a sharp skew for even smooth finish. I have maybe 40 turning tools and this is best in class

As a roughing tool it works great. Interrupted cuts it handles with no problems. That's mainly caused by large cutting area. No sharping fixture fits it. But no problem if you know how to sharpen a wood chisel.

I had one of the older Sorby large spindle roughing gouges, but when I went to get another, they had discontinued them. This one was the largest one I could find and it is huge! I've used it on one project, so far, and am completely satisfied. Sharp right out of the box, it took a big, clean, bite out of the wood.

Bought this and on the second use it broke at the Tang. Unfortunately this happened just after the Amazon return period ended. Would not recommend.
