All new The Batman (film) book
For a major brain aneurysm survivor (19 years old when it happen, now 26) I had to work on pretty much everything again. When I saw where was “The Batman” book (plus a film poster and 8 pages from the movie March 4, 2022) I didn’t know if I could read again. I still bought one anyway. Surprisingly I could understand what some of the words meant (also listening to audiobook while reading along). Sure I understood about 85% of this book, but truthfully I was really happy that just understanding part of the book I could read again :)

Solid Read for Batman Fan
Being the Batman fan that I am this was a must have. It gives a decent backstory for some characters and events leading up to the Batman movie this year. I will say though I was a bit disappointed knowing the story was a bit on the short end, but it was a little teaser before March 4. If you need something to build more hype for you (Not that you might need it lol) check out The Batman prequel novel.

Great for any fan
This book was such a cool dive into the psychology of Bruce’s early days of the mission without spoiling anything for the film. Great fun for readers of all ages, and great poster you can easily remove at the back of the book

A Huge Letdown
As a person very much looking forward to The Batman, I bought this book hoping for some insight into the coming movie. The treatment of the characters is overly simplistic (even given that the book is written for a youth audience) and uninteresting. The character motivations are nonsensical. I am hoping that none of the backstory included in this book is part of the movie.

It was alright for 130 pages.
This story is an easy read on this batmans life growing up to eventually become the Batman at the same time showing Edward nashtons adventures who would grow up to become the riddler. Simple story, nothing really exciting to add before seeing the movie in my opinion. I wish we would have seen how batman developed his relationship with Gordon, or more specifics about how he made his batsuit with the metal bat emblem on his chest.

This is a great appetizer and now I am ready for the main course.
This book does what it intends to do. It introduces you to the world that Matt Reeves has crafted. I was sucked in right away and enjoyed every page of it. There were lots of surprises that were fun to discover while reading this. I am even more stoked to see "The Batman" when it finally hits theaters.

Surprisingly compelling.
"Before the Batman" is a 146-page novella that is set prior to the events of the latest film, and it essentially serves as a “gap filler” in much the same way that “Batman Begins” did, laying out a few of the specific “hows” for this version of Batman: how did Bruce Wayne first get the idea for Batman? How did he come up with the costume? How did he get such an awesome version of the Batmobile? It’s story material that’s been tread over MANY times across both book and film, but author David Lewman does a good job of weaving together the story elements that feel overly familiar within a narrative that is, if not fresh, at least always interesting. And at a scant 146 pages, there’s little time for the reader to grow bored. Not a must-read, but if you liked the latest film and are curious to get a little bit more story, this should do the trick.

A kids book for a mature movie?
When I spotted a prequel novel to the new Batman movie, I immediately ordered this. It wasn’t until it arrived and I noticed there was only 135 pages and the text is very big. It was at this stage I discovered it a children’s book aimed at 8-12 year olds. Why they’ve released a prequel book for a 15 certificate mature dark and gritty Batman movie, aimed at 10-12 year olds is beyond me.So onto the actual book. It reads like a kids story. Everything plays out in a very matter-of-fact way, and all the nuance of Batman’s past and the emotional impact it has is just not there. In fact, it’s written in such a way that it all but implies that Bruce Wayne became Batman out of boredom.I can’t recommend this book to anyone who has read any wealth of Batman comics, because the characterisation is virtually non-existent.

Worth reading before you see the movie
Like other reviews have stated, this short book seems to be aimed at a younger audience. However, it does give you a little more background, insight and motivations of Bruce Wayne and Edward Nashton, before you watch the movie. The book isn't as in-depth as a graphic novel, but if you're a Batman fan and plan on watching the new movie, I would say give this a read first.

Ave María!
Excellent exordium to the movie The Batman. An enjoyable introduction to both our protagonist and antagonist, in their character's development from juveniles to adults. The journey gives the reader an understanding to the characters final mindset and circumstance. Well worth the investment.

An interesting backstory before the movie
A solid story looking at how this version of the character started out. I really like the world building in this universe, feels fleshed out and alive. An easy to read book, not many pages but uses that time to get straight into the details.Learning more about the Gotham project and the notes being similar to the opening of the movie was great.
