Wooden Puzzles: 20 Handmade Puzzles and Brain Teasers

Well-selected set of puzzles to create, good instructions (except couple places where the picture was reversed and messed me up), jigs recommended are very helpful. Solutions in back are needed for people like me who are better at making puzzles than solving them. Need good equipment for accurate cutting (table saw, planer or drum sander etc), but if you like making wooden puzzles as much as I do, this book is for you

I make wooden puzzles for fun and to share with others. This book by a master craftsman is quite good for anyone interested in learning how to make their own wooden puzzles. It goes over the tools, techniques, and the all-important jigs that are needed to make 20 different puzzles. I’ve actually made quite a number of the included puzzles before getting the book and are familiar with the wooden puzzle-making process, but still found some useful tips. The step-by-step assembly instructions for some of the more difficult puzzles are particularly well-done. The last puzzle in the book is the Tabula Cube (by Yavuz Demirhan), a puzzle I’ve known about but its complexity has always intimidated me. The book’s directions were super-clear, so I gave it a try and was fairly pleased with the result! And yes, the book has nice detailed solutions for all the puzzles.

For me, the best part of this book are the bits on assembly. I've made lots of Soma cubes and similar 27-block puzzles. And it always got on my nerves fussing with blocks so the grain pattern works out nicely when assembled. Brian's assembly method is so simple and virtually guarantees that one gets the final grain pattern correct. /* Duh! Smacks forehead! */

liked them all, haven't tried them yet, however would not maybe recommend for an absolute beginner without help/supervision

Very easy to understand. I have constructed two of the puzzles in here and had not trouble at all. The jigs are easy to construct and most can be built from scrap laying around the shop.This is a must have for both the neophyte or the experienced builder.The techniques translate easily to puzzles from other books that do not spell things out as well.

Will be a great book for my growing library, projects to make for years to come.

Great walk through for creating these puzzles

Bought this as a giftfor my brother in law, he loves woodworking. He could not wait to get started on this.

This book is well presented and a pleasure to read. It is full of large,detailed colour photos that explain every step of the process. The jigs required to make the parts are shown in detail and the explanations on puzzle solutions toward the back of the book are first class. The book is exactly what its title says -wooden puzzles and nothing more. Really excellent and well recommended

some of the projects in this book are mind bogglers even with the instructions and so I am excited about getting down to using it.

Excellent detailed practical instructions supplemented by clear colourful informative photos which have transferred well to the Kindle format. The projects are enhanced by brief biographical information about the puzzle designers. Never having made a puzzle before, I was able to complete the first three with minimal difficulty. A table saw, thickness planer and disc sander are definitely necessary.

Als amateur-houtbewerker en puzzelmaker heb ik erg veel geleerd. Vooral het gebruik van mallen wordt in dit boek goed uitgelegd en vele voorbeelden worden gegeven. Ik heb er al een aantal gemaakt en ga er zeker mee door. De tips die gegeven zijn hebben de kwaliteit van mijn puzzel-productie omhoog gebracht.
