Stage Makeup (10th Edition)

I just had to mention that the product details associated with this book are incorrect. This book does not have 432 pages. It has 405 pages with about 8 blank pages at the end for notes. I was disappointed when I discovered that my copy was 27 pages less than expected. I can't fault the book for this. Regardless I would give it four stars for being an excellent book but overpriced. When if first came out it was the best reference book out there but there have been several books in recent years that have raised the bar and I think this book needs a bit of a face lift.

I remembered this book from theater classes in college. I was surprised that so many of the pages were not in color and not printed on standard book paper. The first section is on a very thin paper, almost like a telephone book. I was shocked. The information in the book is good. Most all basics of makeup are covered. The prosthetic section has a lot of out-dated methods that still work but look very 80s sci-fi/horror. Overall it is a lot to pay for so little color demonstrations. If you are just starting out and need the basics of contour and shadow work, this book is handy. If you are looking for pictures, inspiration and color demos... keep looking.

This is a well-known classic textbook for makeup. Some of the information regarding suppliers, etc may be out of date, but the book is a mine of useful techniques, tips and illustrations. It goes all the way from simple eyeliner and lipstick to prostheses and built-up makeup.

The pictures in this book are very cool, however this was a book bought for a make-up class that I barely used so it wouldn't be fair to say I love it. I do not hate it though because it was useful in the tips it gave. I do find hands on learning to be more useful for myself, but this is a great stepping stone for anyone with an interest in stage make-up who might not have a clue to where to start.

Such a great price for a book that is known in theatre as the "bible" for stage makeup. The book was used of course, but the quality was great for only a small fraction of the original price. No where I looked could I find such a good deal!

This book has been in print since, what? The 1930's? Something like that. Well, you'd think by this edition they'd have color pictures. It can be a bit much to take in at once, but it really is a good book. This book was a lot more helpful than the one another teacher at a different school had us get.

The price was right but I bought this for a young teen interested in the field of stage makeup and I was disappointed there weren't more pictures and "how to" guides.

Esta es una edición nueva de un clásico dónde ahora también se incluye el aerógrafo. Es imprescindible para maquilladores que quieran saber sobre teatro, y para actores que quieran a prender a maquillarse ellos mismos
