A poor pamphlet about an interesting subject.
This book was apparently part of a line of titles which Amazon manufactures on demand (just like some DVD's). That might be the reason for the long delivery time. The book itself has an odd "homemade" feel to it. Its dimensions are also small and pamphlet-like.The content itself is of dubious value. Though attributed to "Huge Harkins," it feels like a translation of Russian arms vendors' advertisements. There are even a few peculiar phrases reflecting this. The book uncritically reprints all of the manufacturer's haughty claims - especially about how superior the T-50 is to its pathetic American rivals.Though the book offers a few details about overlooked systems like the Oxygen system or helmet, it's disappointing to those who hoped for sumptuous new photos of the aircraft; most of the photos have been seen before - in larger, splashier formats.Though it is a fascinating subject, this isn't the book which will tell you all about it. Perhaps it is better to wait for one. Or better yet for global security, perhaps this will be yet another stealth aircraft which will never be produced in quantity.

Excellent coverage on the currently only 5th generation fighter coming out of Russia
This has been the first book I have read by the author, and a positive surprise it was, too. Aviation enthusiasts interested in Soviet / Russian aviation have long been reared on the excellent Gordon / Komissarovich pairing but it seems there are very capable additional entrants in the field. The book follows the development of a fifth generation Soviet / Russian interceptor, and while focused on the Sukhoi design bureau, also sufficiently covers the designs of MiG, as the main competitor in the race to provide the Russian Air force with a modern, post-Soviet fighter. Not having to conform to a specific format, the book can allow adequate coverage of most if not all relevant fields and the writing style and overall organization conspire to make it a very pleasant read.It covers both the MFI and LFI programs, the intermediary Sukhoi designs such as the FSW Berkut and finally devotes most of the time to the final product, the T-50 PAK FA. In addition to the genesis of the type, there is plenty of coverage on the systems and components used, weapons tested and probably cleared for use, the current testing and operational roll-out schedules, etc.As with all modern weapons systems, where information is still in part classified, the author can only do so much critical, independent research, while some statements can only be compared to other sources - for instance what the real combat effectiveness is likely to be against the established adversaries. While readers believing in the superiority of Western military aircraft technology may find some claims on combat effectiveness edge of the T-50 tedious, one can at least not fault the author for not also showing the other side ofthe picture (claims by Lockheed Martin, for instance). The book has an ample amount of pictorial material to support the text and some sections, such as that on the air launched weapons is equally useful in terms of other aircraft, since many of these are used on the latest upgrades of existing platforms.Overall definitely a book I could recommend to aviation enthusiasts and a good addition to one's modern military aviation library. The fact that there is now an additional author covering this fascinating field, is an added bonus!

Come per tutti i libri della collana CP di H. Harkins questo piccolo libro è almeno dotato di foto a colori anche se la qualità di stampa è davvero di scarsa qualità rispetto a tantissimi libri di questa categoria. Da prendere in caso di offerta...
