Essays in Love

Arrived in good condition. Excited for the read.

Unique take on the novel writing as well the subject of the love. A lot more realistic in the sense that it relates to the events of day to day life. Loved reading it. It gets a bit distracted in some patches with information overload but overall a refreshing read! :)

I don't think its going to get any more original than this. A beautiful expression of love, beautifully narrated by an 'analytical' lover, for everyone who is trying to figure out love. It is impeccably written, Alain cleverly manages to keep it engaging, without going overboard. It is smart, well-balanced, thoughtful, genuine and there is a beautiful mixture of philosophy, theories and fiction; capturing a lot of nuances relating to love. In simple terms, it is sure to make you swoon.! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ P.S. Not that I am comparing, but somehow, it reminded me of the movie '500 Days Of Summer'.

slightly sappy but worth reading and the quality was decent

Over analysis of each action and thought. Complicating simple acts of daily life. Not needed in an already complex world.

Loved how intricately, delicately and meticulously all the fine prints of love have been seen with a magnifying glass. Too much to learn, too much to think about.

I loved that it was like reading all the conversations we have in our head before, during or after a breakup.

This is my first Alain de Botton book. And I must say I'm thoroughly impressed! It's an impressively daunting task to sift through the myriad emotions one feels while in love and to distill them and lay them out strand by strand is no mean feat. I'm glad that the story borrows from the ease of fiction, yet still allowing for passages of deep rumination without appearing wishy washy in any way. I managed to read most of it in one sitting, highlighting so many passages, seeing myself reflected in the words of the narrator. A memorable read indeed and very enriching! 13/10 would read again and recommend to anyone who has ever struggled to understand the idea of being in love and to understand their own way of grappling with it in all its vibrant glory

Been a while to finish this book off, probably because it hits home so hard about falling in love, and losing your sense of identity, became part of something rather than being yourself. The book follows the "adventures" of a relationship between a girl called Chloe and the author, with the peaks and troughs that occur, with the inevitable breakup in the end, and then the self-pity and malaise that follows It's written in a format that was unusual and tough to read at times. Short prose or essays, with numbers next to each part, but then a story of two people interweaved between it all. The prose/essays is more philosophical and goes somewhere in analysing the emotions felt during the book, while the novel part focuses solely on two people and their story. The hidden messages, the secret code, the thoughts that pervade every waking moment, the longing to not do something, and then living in the past once things are over. If you've ever been in love, or had an interest in someone (a comment to be understood once you have read the book), then you would do yourself a favour and pick this up, and read it.

Love this author- he just tells it how it is. Easy to read, insightful, yet do down to earth.
