Perfect story
I loved this book and so did my five year old. It was a perfect birthday gift for him since he is obsessed with the Kraken. I read some reviews expressing disappointment with the ending of the story being that (spoiler alert) the Kraken only makes one friend in the end. I thought this was a beautiful ending, and a very realistic one. I like the message to kids that if you practice a few rules of friend-making, you'll eventually make friends, and most likely it will be one at a time, and that is ok. Kids don't need to make all the friends in the world and not all at once and the expectation shouldn't be set as such. Just my two cents. This book is beautiful!

Great story for discussion with children!
This story is extremely relatable for anyone, young or old. It offers excellent opportunities for one-on-one discussion with your child, or a group of children in class or a library. We all experience uncertainty and insecurity early in life to some degree, regardless of our circumstances. This story identifies skills that can help a child get through that challenging process of adjustment that many children experience when first going off to school or entering a new social situation. A child doesn't need to be different or lonely to identify with the Kraken's feelings, and the lessons in the story are presented in a very understandable way for young children. They are in fact some of the most important lessons life has to offer.

Lessons
Brittany Jacobs has drawn on her own life experiences to create this beautifully illustrated children’s book. With elements of education within, the story is about differences, proactivity, and acceptance, all woven into “The Kraken’s” lessons in making friends. Having read some of Ms. Jacobs’ travel blogs, this writer has a rich talent, effectively used to paint vivid pictures of her experiences through words. In this book she combines the power and simplicity of the written word with her striking illustrations. A thoughtful and out of the ordinary addition to any child’s bookshelf.

ending not as expected
This book had beautiful illustrations. My son and I both found the ending to be a let down, though.Spoiler alert: The kraken only gains one friend at the end of the book. If you have a little one who is really struggling with making friends, then emphasis on having one good friend makes this a good book for them.

A "Kraken" good time!
We bought this for our kraken loving 5 year old. He loved having this book read to him. It's a cute book and teaches the foundations about how to be a good friend and make new friends.
