SCHLAGELock Company Single Cylinder Deadbolt with Collins Trim, Aged Bronze (B60 N COL 716)

WT actual F!? I just opened this deadbolt set, made by Schlage, from Amazon and this is how it was delivered (see pic). For 50 bucks, I get this pile of nuts and bolts with no installation instructions, packaging, etc... I'm not gonna send it back because I need it to secure my shop this weekend and am pretty mechanically inclined so I should be okay installing it. I'm not quite sure if it is used or new! Anyway, this is a very substandard purchase from Amazon that feels like I picked it up used at a yard sale, and I thought you all should know.

I purchased a electronic keypad deadbolt and needed to replace the backdoor deadbolt so we didn't need to carry two sets of keys. Along with this rekeying kit,  Prime-Line Products E 2402 Schlage Type C Re-Keying Kit, 5 Pin , I was able to rekey this deadbolt to match the key for the electronic keypad deadbolt. This process only took 15 minutes.After rekeying, installation only took 5 minutes. To be honest, it was easier than I thought. Saved me a lot of money over hiring a locksmith to rekey and change the deadbolt.This deadbolt also looks great. Wife was impressed. Prime-Line Products E 2402 Schlage Type C Re-Keying Kit, 5 Pin

I bought this for my side door, planning to have it rekeyed to match my front door Schlage lock. But the locksmith tells me my front door is 6 pin tumbler, and this one is 5 pin. The keys are not compatible in length.Had I known this or had it been listed as something I should check, I would have taken it into account.Oh well.

Price was good for quality of lock. Came in brown box / no name /no label/ nothing packaging which was odd, but the actual product was brand name, brand new/never used. Easy install, seems strong and sturdy, and lockal locksmith said Schlage is the best AFFORDABLE lock to this day, however also said if I could get my hands on one that was more than 20 years old that those are even better. He did say do not buy any of the smart locks/easy re-key locks as those are hacked in seconds. This particular lock is drill and pick resistant. If you want drill and pick proof you need to look at the commercial lock ranging $300 and up. I don't think the local junkies have taken the time to learn lock picking. If they can't kick the door down they move on the next house, so this lock is fine at a great price.

I remember the Schlage deadbolt that i installed for my parents over a decade and a half ago was better built and quality was way better. This particular unit did not come with a internal cover as the standard unit does which protects the inner mechanisms (see the pictures of the standard deadbolt from Schlage). This could have been integrated with the square metal trim.
