Have you experienced slow speed with new batteries? When I remove the top piece, the spinner moves fast but when I reassemble, it slows down.

Hello, I think you should try another set of new batteries as it does sound like you have a bad battery. I will tell you that this is a very old model - has been out of our line up since 2009. It may be showing signs of it's demise.
