Gravitas and style occasionally ruined by poor taste
I loved this movie for what it does well: stone-cold gravitas and stylish ultra-violence. But before you watch this, you need to know what you are getting yourself into. This is Troy Duffy directing, and Troy Duffy is a mixed bag. And so is this movie.First, the good. The violence is sufficiently violent, and almost devoid of suffering or gore. Not so much cartoonish as stylized, like ballet. Violence as art. Maybe I'm a bad person, but I really enjoyed Troy Duffy's strangely bloodless and painless ultra-violent death orgies. I am guessing it would be even more fun after a couple of beers.Say what you want about her unconvincing Southern accent, but Julie Benz knocked my socks off with her depiction of a hot, mature, highly competent woman at home in her own skin and comfortable with her sex appeal. The shortcomings in the character as written were largely overcome by some highly enjoyable and incredibly professional acting on Benz's part. Wow.Let's touch on the bad stuff so that you can decide if you want to put up with it. First, male nudity. I don't care what you do in your own home, have at it. But I do not want to see it. There was plenty of male nudity and, frankly, it annoyed me. Incontinence happened a couple of times and that annoyed me, too. If you can shoot several dozen holes in people without depicting blood, then you can avoid close-ups of potty accidents. Then there was the convoluted, half-baked plot twists. These certainly did not add anything to the movie, and they wasted time and strained my patience. And yet, five stars. Here's the thing: the bad stuff in the movie wasn't very bad. The good stuff was super-duper-good. This movie really was a good time. If you are more sensitive to bad taste than I am, maybe give it a pass. Otherwise, dive in--this movie is a lot of fun.

I'm a fan of Boondock Saints - but it has a lot of violence
Not for the faint of heart. Not for those that abhor violence (especially shooting on screen).I won't get into plot much, but this takes place in Boston and follows two Irish brothers and their fight against mafia evils. The movie is told with the brothers point of view.Willem Defoe plays and FBI special agent assigned to investigate the shootings and mafia warfare. While a big fan of Defoe, I object o certain character "traits" that he was given. Add nothing to the story line, in my opinion. But DeFoe is, as usual, great. The brothers are young and play their parts well.If a viewer likes a lot of violence, mostly with a revenge theme, Boondock Saints is for you. The soundtrack has a lot of Irish "jigs" too. And of course, a small part of Boston is shown. It is not a tour of Boston at all.

Let's do some gratuitous violence.
Before I bought this movie, I was wondering why it got so many 3, 2 and 1 star reviews. I guess I see where they're coming from now. It definitely doesn't have the same feel as the first movie. It feels a little scripted, a little forced, a little cheesy, the music doesn't fit, the female FBI agent is fairly annoying... That being said, you may ask 'Why 5 stars?'. Well, I really wanted to love it but, the first third of the movie, I really wasn't feeling it. It was like a bad B-movie and not in a good, cult classic kind of way. The second third of the movie hit its stride and really got me laughing! The drinking scene with F*** A** (Can't swear in the reviews, even though it's kinda the guys name...) is hilarious! "Shut up! Romeo's cryin'." gets me every time! And when Greenly listened to 'Sister Christian', I almost peed myself laughing! Then, the final third, a main character dies and the boys have a dream about Rocco and I cried... Hard... Then, another character dies and I cried all the way through until the end. So, yes, the movie tries a little too hard to recapture the feel of the first movie and draws painfully obvious parallels (-Yakavetta Jr. incorrectly pronouncing words like Dolly.-Pretending to shoot Romeo like they did with Rocco in the Russians hotel room.-Fighting in the crate like they did in the ducts.-Greenly and his breath spray.-Bloom's earplugs like Smecker's music.-The whole rope situation...) but, if you can just let go of your expectations and watch the movie for what it is (Everyone from the first movie getting together 10 years later to reminisce, have fun and make a cheesy sequel.) you should enjoy it. It took a few minutes but, it definitely grew on me and is now one of my favorites!

OMG Flandus!
No my heading does not mean anything rude to non-Boondock fans it means a lot.I love Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman because of the original Boondock Saints. Their friendship off screen really translates into the 2 movies.I love this movie because of them. This is not as good as the first and the best bits are just Norman and Sean being themselves as the Murphy Brothers.I hope they make a third, but it looks like not for quite a while if at all.

Got Boondock 1,got to have Boondock 2.
Loved Boondock 1,so had to have no 2.Its more action of course, but whats lovely is you still feel that Norman and Sean just had a blast filming it.The fact that Billy(The Big Yin)Conolly is their dad is just pure bliss.Glad they didn't make another I don't think it would have worked.Stop while you're ahead.

Top film, one to always have in your library
It is essential that you watch the Boondock Saints first film before watching this one - The Boondock Saints 2 is the follow on. The first film is great, good banter, good comedy and good action scenes. The second film is better and more funnier. Well worth staying in and watching both films in one night. The films are based around amateur hit men taking out the bad guys. I am not going to expand on the plot but you will enjoy both films.

FANTASTIC.
Having seen this on TV the night after it was broadcast, I decided to buy it as I'm a big fan of Billy Connolly, I didn't know at the time this was the second one until I saw them both together, so I purchased both. Overall a very good plot with a lot of twists and turns. I think there must be a third justifying the ending of this one?
