WEN 10-Inch Benchtop Drill Press, 6.2-Amp Variable Speed Motor with Cast Iron Construction, and Laser (DP1062V)

I'm pleasantly surprised with this drill press. The instructions for assembly and operation were clear and led me through the assembly and initial operation with but two minor issues. One, there was little in the way of explaining that the extra handle was to be screwed into the speed adjustment housing... not hard to figure out, but it did give me a short pause having to think it though. The other issue was with the threaded holes in the base to mount the upright shaft... the threading wasn't done well and basically, I had to force the bolts through so they would clean up/finish the cut. Again, not a huge issue, but speaks to QA. Once assembled I checked the setup and straight from the factory, everything was true except the laser which was about 1/64th off. Easy fix though. Then I ran some 1/4" x 1" deep test holes in cedar, pine and walnut and using a metal dowel rod found zero slop and a perfect cut hole at exactly 90 degrees. No slop in the spindle shaft, or if there is, it's so little as to be a non issue. I then drilled a 1/16" hole in a scrap piece of steel that's about an eight of an inch thick. Cut cleanly with no noticeable wobble at the bit. This is a well-built tool with all the feature except an onboard light... something I missed noting when I bought it, but that's an easy fix. Since it wasn't advertised as having one, it's a no harm no foul issue. I has all the power necessary for a home shop, noise level is low and for the money a good value. It's early days with it, so I haven't a clue about durability, but based on how well it is built, I'm guessing it will last for as long as I need it. Wen did good with this rig.

It went together very easily. It is much larger than I anticipated compared to my 8” press. Everything was spot on out of the box. Laser works well and was accurate.

Not bad but does need some upgrades. A work light would be nice and I added a keyless chuck. Could be more quiet, it’s fairly noisy. Definitely not top quality but will work fine for hobbies and small jobs.

This drill is amazing. Quite easy to setup. I built a new guitar using it to drill tremolo bridge post holes. Love this drill!!!

Easy to assemble, works perfectly. Being able to adjust the speed on-the-fly without messing around with belts is a huge advantage over my last one. Plenty of power for this handyman homeowner and project maker.

worth the money spent for hobbyist, my only complaint is the stroke travel, 2" is used up pretty quickly, need 3" min in my opinion, and the laser is only good for a pc the is low on the table and smaller drill bits, if the work piece is 1.75" thick and you need to drill a 1/2" hole through it the bit will block the laser point on work pc. but for under $300 it will suffice for me and i would recommend it again.
