The Witches of BlackBrook

So much left out, so one dimensional all around
I truly have no idea how this book has so many good reviews. Beside the grammatical errors (assess instead of asses, etc), this read like a college student's first attempt. There isn't much detail to make me care about any of the characters. The protagonist is one-dimensional. The reader is told at least three times that she is a powerful witch. Beside saying a beautiful rhyme, we aren't given any depth of her magic. Relationships are built on nothing, except on the premise that they are soul mates. Show us, build it up a bit longer, let it burn slowly while laying the bread crumbs. The antagonist was beyond surprising, but that is only because they are mentioned in two sentences. Give us a deep-seated reason they are against our herione. I felt like they were putted against her for the sake of giving the story a villian. The premise was great. But SO much more detail and back story is needed to make this book a tour de force. Not interested in reading the second title in this series.

FIRST BOOK IN A MAGICAL SERIERS 5/5 STARS
This is one of those books where you keep thinking one more chapter and then I'll stop for the night and the next thing you know the book is over and you're both happy and sad. I started this book about 2am and finished it at 4:22am. I though that since it was after 3 and it was officially now March 7, I could buy book 2 and continue this wonderful series, but alas I must wait a few more hours. (Guess I'll try to get some sleep).I LOVED this story; the quick trips back to the late 17th century before continuing todays timeline; the story of sisters and lovers lost through time, always searching but always being kept apart. I have to admit, I wasn't surprised as to the reason that they had remained apart for centuries, it was the only way ot made since and even the hook gives a reference to that reason.Trina is an amazing character and now that she and her sisters have reunited, with the approval of the Goddess, I can only imagine the amazing things that can happen as the series continues. As to be expected since Trina was the main focus of this book and the main character in the backstory there is much we don't know about the other two that I expect to learn as the series unfolds.I also very happy that there wasn't a three-way love triangle or insta-love; they have loved each other for centuries and finally they have been reunited. It will be interesting to see the other two find their true loves, especially since Ms. Thawer writes the romance with such a light hand. This is so different and such a welcome change from the almost porn that is thrown at readers in place of love and romance. Please don't ruin my opinion by writing the next one using the ubiquitous “I hate you, but everyone knows that means I love you and knows we’ll end up together,” that is even more nauseating than insta-love.5/5 STARS

Don’t Waste Your Time...Pass On By...
This should be labeled as “young adult”, if not actually children’s...Poor writing, horrible and predictable plot development (if you can call it a plot)...Absolutely no actual character development, no personality in any of them. It’s hard to even keep the female characters straight...Twinky, juvenile representations of “witchcraft” and Wicca...Banal, boring writing and narrative...Don’t Waste Your Time with this one.

nope...did not enjoy ....infact did not even finish
I gave this a three star because there is something missing in the story line. I wish I could put my finger on it, but I stopped reading this book by mid chapter. At first it did keep my interest since I love books about Witches and magic and history but the story line was drab. I liked the book to pick it up and keep going but the plot just fizzled out. Trin and Kit live together thinking they are reincarnated and were sisters from a past life looking for the third sister. They find Carisa (?) Trin thinks this is the third sister but Kit says it is not. Kit seems very possessive of Trin which seems very strange, I don't really want to be a spoiler but Kit does not turn out to be who you think, this was where I stopped because it was so strange.Trin's past love in another life comes back and when they meet for the first time it is just too sappy for me. When I read a book which captures me - to me it is colorful...... this was just drab. :(

It took me back to a time long forgotten.
The Witches of BlackBrook follows a true witch through time. Her name is Trin...in this life, and all she wants is to find her sister whom she lost when she cast a spell that caused...some stuff to happen. What can I say about this tale?Trin and her sister's story held my attention (which is hard to do). I quite enjoyed the everyday spells they used and the author's take on the world of Wicca. Example of one of the spells: "Goddess of love, Goddess of light, bless my girls on this full moon's night. Spark their powers from deep within, let their journey as witches begin." This is from their mother. The characters were very relatable and lovable. In conclusion, I liked the story, I might even get the paperback one day, but I kinda saw the plot coming. But there could be other reasons for that. 😉 Also, my other issue, I craved more detail. But I'm a sucker for details. I always tell my clients, details, details, details.

The only bad thing about this book.....
The only bad thing about this book is that the ending just comes to fast for me. I really love Tish Thawer's novels. They are creative, the characters are interesting, and the storyline keeps me turning the page. Can't ask for more than that. Wait! There are 2 bad things about this series and one of them is a biggie for my husband. I got ABSOLUTELY NOTHING DONE ONCE I STARTED THIS BOOK. Literally, nothing!!! I did not get dressed (I did not even get out of bed, which is NOT bad from where I am lying 😉), eat (that's not a bad thing either, lol), but I haven't taken anything out for supper tonight and depending on my husband's mood, that could swing into something very ugly! Hmmmm....oh well, I've enjoyed my day. A lot! If given the choice of of redoing things differently, I would do it again! Ready for Book 2!!!!!

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
This book has been brilliantly researched (unless the author is an actual Wiccan witch herself). As an eclectic witch myself, i an delighted to finally see Witchcraft and Wicca perfectly depicted in this book. Or as perfect as it gets taking into account that there are supernatural and fantastical elements to it.I have never been more pleased with a fictional book about Paganism and Witchcraft and the love for family through the ages. Thank you for respectfully covering the subject Ms Thawer. I. Cant wait for Daughters of Maine now!

Amazing
This book had me riveted. Couldnt put it down, literally. Read in a day!. The Story is based around a sister lost throughout time seaking to find her family. Secrets, demons and magic are all entwined to make this a "must read the next chapter" kind of book. Twists i wasnt expecting made it an exceptional read.

Bewitched
This book was a pleasure to read and I managed it in two sittings. The characters are lovely and have a feel good about them. I love all things witch but really wished the book could have been longer and more indepth. Even so a read you will enjoy.

Needs an editor
There is so much bad grammar and misplaced punctuation that it detracts from the storyline. If you are going to publish books please invest in an editor to correct all your mistakes.

Enjoyable but predictable
This book passed an enjoyable few hours. It was obvious what would happen half way through, didn't detract from the book however.

Great Book!
I've had this book on my must read list for a while now, finally bought it.This was the first book I've ever ordered from Amazon.Price wise it's average to book stores, but because Tish is self published (I was told) her books aren't available in traditional book stores so there isn't ever a sale per say.Otherwise I enjoyed the book!

Sister witches rediscovering themselves and each other over multiple timelines!
I flew through this book, it literally took me 4 and a half hours to read it, i was so hungry for the magic on these pages, I haven’t read a book so quickly since the Twilight series. Tish Thawer takes us on a magical but complicated journey into the lives of three sister witches. Katrine, now known as Trin, is the eldest and is living with Kit who she has found in every new life her soul leads. Together, over many centuries, they search for their other sister but something has been blocking them from finding her. Trin works as a massage therapist, using her magical powers for good. One day Trin meets a cute, local policeman named Jason and finds out he has a cousin, Caris. Immediately Trin feels a kinship with them, a magic spark if you will.Tish takes us on a journey into their lives, she writes well, though the dialog does feel forced and somewhat stiff at times. We learnt quite a bit about Trin in this first novel but not much about the supporting characters. We are taken back and forth through time with Trin’s memories and flashbacks which were interesting and it was good to imagine the family dynamic they had in the past, it made me feel hopeful she would get to experience that again in the near future. All in all I found it to be an enjoyable read and I look forward to seeing what comes next for Trin and her sisters and how this series ends. I'm really hoping we delve deeper into the supporting characters in book two, I'd love to know more about Caris. I'd definitely recommend this series for young adults, the older souls will probably find the writing to be a bit too young for them.

Expectations were too high
Quite honestly, I'm not sure why this book has so many great reviews.I was looking forward to it as the basic premise seemed interesting and promising.I ended up finding the writing to be very simple and trite, the characters weren't developed enough and the plot predictable.Perhaps my expectations were too high based on the reviews.

Should be listed as young reader book
Great concept but written for a less discerning/younger reader. Copy is simple, dialogue is abrupt and awkward. I liked the story but found I couldnt become immersed in it.

A fabulous story.
I really enjoyed the twist at the end. Great story . I felt each character was a family member of my own.
