Encounter Of The Spooky Kind [GUI DA GUI] (Eureka Classics) Blu-ray

The Eureka blu ray is a spectacular edition of the movie. Technical merits are top notch and the extras are great. These comments only apply to this edition of the film.

The movie is great. I’ve been hunting it for years on blu ray and was happy to find this. However it only plays on Region B blu ray players. There is NOTHING in the product description that says as much. Sadly had to return it. Do NOT buy unless you have a Region B player!!!

Really disappointed, most region B BluRay are clearly indicated on amazon.ca, this one is not one of them. So to anyone not in Europe looking to buy this BluRay, find another one!

I picked up Encounters of the Spooky Kind on a whim, just for the simple fact that it stars Sammo Hung. I have been enjoying a lot of his movies recently and took it as a sign that I should purchase more. What I saw was a very enjoyable film, one that should appeal to many. The humour is quite physical and would translate well, even if you weren't reading the subtitles. There's some great jokes in there too. The movie had me laughing from start to finish.Naturally, this film is listed as a kung fu martial arts film. That means that there is at least one big fight sequence and being a Sammo film, it won't be disappointing. Right enough, the fight sequences were great. The final battle specifically was both strange and impressive to watch. I also loved the rotten bunny hoping corpse scene. It was as equally funny as it was tense. Sammo was a right beast in his day and this is him in his prime as far as I'm concerned. He comes across remarkably powerful and extremely agile here, especially considering his porky figure.This new Eureka! bluray is quite impressive. Much like their other kung fu releases, the picture quality is very clear and very sharp with the colours bursting through the screen. It's a superb looking film. There's a number of extra features on the disc, which should please fans. There's reversible poster, a cool looking slipcase, a number of audio tracks, dubbed audio, a new commentary track by Frank Djeng, an old interview with Sammo, the original trailer and more.This is a must own film in my opinion. I felt that it would sit perfectly next to the equally silly Mr. Vampire and looks just as good. It's a very funny movie that should appeal to all ages and couldn't recommend it more.

Had fond memories of this film from tv version.Pleasantly surprised to find uncut film even more entertaining. Has an English dub but I enjoy the Cantonese with sub titles.Other half reckons there is a bit of the carry on film with the kung fu and the dead.

I have owned this film on VHS, DVD and now Blu-ray, this film should be in everyone who is into martial arts films, basically this film is about villager Bold Cheung (Sammo Hung), known for his willingness to do anything courageous, bold or daring, becomes a target by the evil rich Master Tam (Huang Ha), who committed adultery with Cheung's unfaithful wife and wants to keep her as his mistress. Cheung is tricked into a bet to spend the night in a haunted temple. The picture and sound quality is very good 5 out of 5 for both. Other Sammo Hung classics I would like to see on Blu-ray Prodigal Son, Warriors Two, The Odd Couple and Knockabout.

Excellent film now on Blu ray. Had to get even tho already have DVD and VHS. What can I say! This era of martial art films was excellent. Sammo Hung being the main star in this one setting the gold star in horror humour martial arts films. Love the mythology of Chinese films and find these hong kong films extremely entertaining. As for Sammo Hung its hard to believe a chap of his size could do the stunts and actions he can.
